3. Commercial Vehicles: It can be broadly classified
into the following category:

(1) Goods carrying vehicles & Trailer (2) Public
Passenger Service vehicles (3) Misc. or Special
type of vehicles.

(1) Goods carrying vehicle:
Goods carrying vehicle sub-divided into 2 categories (1)
Private carrier (2) Public Carrier.

Under the earlier Motor Vehicles Act, 1939 both 'private
carrier and public carrier' had been defined, but the same
did not find place in the existing Motor Vehicles Act,
1988. Rather the term 'goods carrying vehicle' is
replaced with "Goods Carriage" without any
categorization of public carrier and private carrier, as it
exists earlier.

However, for insurance rating purposes they are still
classified as public carrier& private carrier. Goods
carrying motorized three-wheeler both private ands
public carrier and motorized three wheeler pedal
cycle both private and public is also included in this
category.
