In metropolitan areas, civil suits are adjudicated by the small

causes Court and city civil court. The pecuniary jurisdiction of the

small causes Court is generally Rs. 25,000. The city civil courts can

adjudicate cases for amounts upto Rs.1,50,000. Suits for higher

amounts are adjudicated by the original side of the chartered High

                     Courts.

The High Courts have the power to determine the constitutional

validity of a State Law. They have jurisdiction over judgments of

inferior courts when such judgments are subject to appeal or

                     revision.

The District Judge is the highest judicial authority (civil and

                     criminal) in the District.

Apart from the Supreme Court, the High Courts and the

Subordinate Judiciary, there are a number of Special Courts and

Tribunals in the country which adjudicate disputes pertaining to

                     special subjects.
