        3. Results

The results are analyzed and discussed first in the aggregate, then by area of engagement, and lastly
        by insurance company.

        3.1. Overall Results

The frequency for the top five preferences for each of the 17 UN sustainability goals is shown in
Figure 2. Top choice was Good Health and Well-Being with 44% of responses, followed by Peace,
Justice and Strong Institutions with 38%. In last place Gender Equality, which was ranked in the top five
by only 18% of respondent. The authors assigned each goal to one, and in five cases two, category of
Environmental, Social, or Governance (ESG) goal. Social goals were just shy of half of the preferences,
environmental for less than a third and Governance for less than a quarter.

Figure 2: Top 5 ranking by UN Sustainability goal and ESG weighting

The results are relatively stable by gender, with women showing a slightly higher preference for
social goals (49% vs. 45%) especially Zero Hunger and Gender Equality while men show a higher
preference for Affordable and Clean Energy and Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure. The results
are also consistent across age cohorts, with Social goals accounting for 46% to 51% of preferences,
Environmental goals for between 27% and 31%, and Governance goals between 21% and 25%. No clear
pattern can be detected by age.

        3.1.1. Engagement

Respondents perceived the engagement of their insurer on average at 2.4 on a scale of 1 to 5, better
than the middle point. The distribution of responses is shown in Figure 3, and it is largely consistent
across age cohorts and by gender.
