temperature in AC room for their proper functioning. Later, our
expenditure proposal for providing AC for the computer room, was
promptly approved. So, machine was given precedence over human in
this respect. It was very difficult to install a computer even at the Staff
College due to stiff opposition from Workers' Unions for fear of
displacement of workers.
Guest lecture of a Psychology Department Professor
from a University
The participants engaged with rapt attention during a session delivered
by a Professor from Department of Psychology of a nearby University.
The session was on Transactional Analysis and Inter- personal Relations -
"I am okay, you are not okay" like content with examples of Rekha, the
then gorgeous actress and so many other interesting short stories thrown
in to the 2 hour session. The topic was found very engaging because the
content was very light and there was no heavy dose of knowledge inputs
like Banking Laws and Operations or Credit Appraisal and Risk
Management Models. They used to enjoy it thoroughly because they
were not exposed to such psychology ideas earlier and the Professor used
to get the highest feedback score.
Visit of the General Manager (HR)
Our General Manager (HR), once visited our Staff College and suggested
that Staff Colleges should conduct Management Research Studies on
some pressing problems of the bank. I took lead at our Staff College and
produced three reports as under:
i. "Reasons for deficiencies in the area of Credit Appraisal and MIS",
ii. "Employee morale in branches under control of one Divisional Office"
iii. "Perception of Employees about Higher office and vice-versa".
These research study reports were found very interesting and systematically
conducted by the higher management of the bank as well as NIBM
(National Institute of Bank Management, Pune). Bank implemented several
recommendations based on findings of these studies.
