does not retrace his threat which was not at all given by him. He called
the union leaders in Head Office and spoke to them. They agreed to
withdraw their complaint only when the Chairman agreed to transfer the
Chief from this branch.
The Chief had already achieved his intended agenda of reforming the
branch. Now the new incumbent had to take it forward to condition the
employees to remain disciplined and not unlearn what had been done
by the outgoing Chief.
The work culture in bank was really scary and clumsy. Honest and
righteous persons were targeted by the bullies. The whole episode
demoralized all of us. We could imagine the mental plight of the
gentleman who was victimized for no fault of his and only wanted to
reform one of the largest branch of the bank to restore its past glory. It
was really disgusting to note that his sincere efforts failed due to crooked
ploys deployed by the vested interests. It was difficult to accept that the
evil got better of the good but it was hope and faith in sincerity that kept
us going.
Insights from the episode
1. There are unforeseen danger pockets.
2. One can only keep working honestly. If one is right, the system
around will also be supportive.
