Anatomical Directional Terminology
DEEP
Describes a position farther from the surface of the body.
Exp.: The brain is deep to the skull.
SUPERFICIAL
Describes a position closer to the surface of the body.
Exp.: in skin the epidermis is superficial to the subcutis.
The skin is superficial to the bones.
