Anatomical Directional Terminology
CONTRALATERAL
Relating to a part on the opposite side of the body
Exp.: the left arm is contralateral to the right arm, or the right leg.
a stroke involving the right side of the brain may cause contralateral paralysis of the left leg.
IPSILATERAL
on the same side of body or another structure.
Exp.: the left arm is ipsilateral to the left leg.
