Anatomical Directional Terminology
MEDIAL

An anatomical direction towards the median or midsagittal plane
Exp.: The hallux is the medial toe.
LATERAL
Describes the side or anatomical direction toward the side of the body or away
from median or midsagittal plane.
Exp.: The thumb (pollex) is lateral to the digits.
