Anatomical Directional Terminology

ANTERIOR or VENTRAL

Describes the front or anatomical direction toward the front of the body.

Exp.: The toes are anterior to the foot.

POSTERIOR or DORSAL

Describes the back or anatomical direction toward the back of the body.

Exp.: The popliteus is posterior to the patella.
