Conclusions
The study’s findings indicate that the low level of discomfort after each upper
gastrointestinal endoscopy may be related to the short duration of the procedure and the
excessive cervical rotation due to right-side position of the video monitor. With respect
to the colonoscopy, in spite of the duration of the procedure, the low level of discomfort
after each exam may be due to the appropriate position of the monitor. Within this
examinations, the frequent cervical extension can be reduced if the placement of the
video monitor is adjustable in hight being adapted to the anthropometric characteristics
of the endoscopists.
The presented results are related to the first phase of the study and are the basis for
the development of ergonomic recomendations, namely the reconception of the
endoscopic room layout. The endoscopic equipment design should be also an issue in
future studies.
