Another month and we are still in "measures" I hope everyone is staying
safe. As promised last month I have an update on the Poppy Appeal, some
of you may have seen on facebook that the RBL isn't selling poppies this
year. Of course this isn't true. Whilst the Covid19 pandemic has impacted
how we deliver the Poppy Appeal our staff volunteers partners and suppliers have been
working hard to ensure the 2020 Appeal is going ahead and the nation can take part in
remembrance activity. Each year 40,000 volunteers from across the UK make the
appeal happen, however
many of our volunteers or someone they live with will fall into the vulnerable category,
so it's simply not safe for them to take part. As a result we won't be able to deliver
boxes of poppies to every local business that has supported us in the past. However the
public can access poppy appeal items via our web site to enable companies and
communities to support the appeal, the RBL website is
www.rbl.org.uk/poppyappeal.
Poppies will be available from Sainsburys, ALDI, Morrisons, and Tesco stores and
volunteers will run collection stands in supermarkets and sites where possible, many
national and regional partners will also offer poppies via static boxes.
It will be a challenge this year we are asking our partners volunteers fundraisers
members and staff to come together and get behind the appeal in a way not asked of
them before. locally we hope to be in Tesco Quedgeley as usual with our stand , please
support us.
In September we had our Branch meeting at which it was decided that as we are unable
to hold a valid AGM the committee from last year will stand again and continue our
work as usual. Everyone take care and hopefully we will meet again soon.
