In the Middle Ages the cathedral was considered to give

everything necessary both for everyday life, and beyond the grave,
as books only distract people from base values, encourage

excessive knowledge and unhealthy curiosity.

So 500 years ago conformists were afraid of books as now they

are afraid of a computer and the Internet while it is not necessary
to oppose visual and verbal communications, but improve both

(Eco, 1998).
