C hristmas is more than a day it is a season. It begins with Advent which
starts four Sundays before Christmas day. The season ends with the Epiphany,
the Feast of the Magi on the Sunday between the second and eighth of January.
Advent is a time of preparation and repentance.
As John the Baptist calls us to repent. Matthew 3:2 “Turn away from
your sins,” he said, “because the Kingdom of heaven is near!”
Advent Prayer
Father, in the wilderness of the Jordan You sent a messenger to prepare
people’s hearts for the coming of Your Son. Help me to hear His words and
repent of my sins, so that I may clearly see the way to walk, the truth to
speak, and the life to live for Him, our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
Christmas is the time that God gives us to be quiet and reflect, to forgive
and ask for forgiveness. A special time for letting go of past hurts and injustices.
This is an opportunity for welcoming and opening our homes and our hearts.
It is a reason to let in the light that casts out the darkness. It is only God that
gives us the gift of truth and the promise of peace. This is the season of coming
home and coming back.
There is nothing new in this book; the words are ancient, handed down
from the beginning of time. They are God’s Words, straight from the Bible.
God’s Words, like God Himself, are the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
The Word of God is not new, yet it is always alive and vibrant with newness.
God’s Word speaks to the inner most cells of our hearts. It penetrates
our being; it heals and comforts. It makes us feel again. The word of God
brings us home to truth and love.
