G od made the universe and each one of us. He wanted us to live in perfect
happiness with Him. He gave us free will because He did not want us to be
slaves. When Adam and Eve first sinned, the forces of evil were unleashed
upon humanity. Due to our weak nature, sin seems attractive in that it falsely
promises freedom, power, wealth and immortality.
Once caught in its snarls what one finds is: slavery to sin, oppression,
cruelty, immorality, paganism, worship of idols, sexual perversity, addictions,
bondage, sickness, expendability of human life, endless wars, constant turmoil
and death. This was how the world was at the time Jesus was born.
God knew our helplessness. Temptation seemed to be too much for our
wounded humanness. God saw this and still loved us. His mercy and
compassion are endless. Although all humanity would suffer from the evil in
the world, God in His Goodness, gave us hope.
God never meant for us to suffer or to die. Adam and Eve lived in a
garden of paradise surrounded with beauty and peace. Ever since “The
Fall”, which was the disobedience of man that caused human beings to have
a fallen nature, all people are born with original sin on their souls. Through the
Sacrament of Baptism alone we are washed clean of the original sin on our souls.
God loved us so much that He made another way for us to live.
“I will make you and the woman hate each other; her offspring and yours will always
be enemies. Her offspring will crush your head, and you will bite their heel.”
Genesis 3:15
God is talking to the devil. “The woman” is The Blessed Virgin Mary whose
offspring is Jesus, the Son of God who crushes the head of the devil, so the
devil has no more power over humanity.
