FREAKIN PATRIOT DASH
by John Moorehouse
After winning his first out as a four year old by
a whopping 7-lengths, Freakin Patriot Dash logged the first stakes victory of his career, rallying late to win the $25,000 Magnolia Stakes at Louisiana Downs on Feb. 2.
Josue Huitron owns and trains the gelding, who now holds four wins in 12 total starts. Two of those trips to the winner’s circle have come during the current meet at Louisiana Downs. The gelding was running a close second at both the first call and the beginning of the stretch in the Magnolia Stakes, then hit the wire first by a neck.
Pedro Espinosa drew the riding assignment for an 870-yard trip that took :46.715, producing an 87 speed index. Freakin Patriot Dash now has three wins in four starts at the 870 distance, with this latest triumph reaping a $15,000 payday that nearly doubled his total earnings to $35,165.
Robert Touchet bred Freakin Patriot Dash out
of Frances Carr Distaff Stakes-G3 winner Freakin Dash. The mare also won the Oklahoma Bred Championship and was a finalist in the Iowa Double Gold Futurity-RG3. Freakin Dash has produced 100% money earners from five starters, including top earner Freakin Game. Freakin Patriot Dash is her first stakes winner.
JW Who Dat (Agouti-EW Comment) and Antonio Alberto finished second for owner Giovanni Barron and trainer Eric Palacio.
Im Mighty Fast (Mighty Corona-Sheza Fast Doll) was third under jockey Jose Rodriguez for owner Triple C Racing Stables, LLC and trainer Megan Carter.

Raced exclusively in Louisiana, Gunna Be Alright has won four of 17 starts and has earned $67,222.
The gelding was bred by JoBaya Foreman and he is one of eight winners from nine starters produced by the stakes-winner JJ Streakin Illusion.
JJ Streakin Illusion has produced three other
stakes winners, including Ol Time Preacher Man, a
full brother to Gunna Be Alright who won the 2013 LQHBA Futurity-RG1 at Evangeline Downs and Listen To The Wind, who won both the LQHBA Invitational & LQHBA Sale Invitational Stakes in 2008.
“That line of horses just takes time to mature,” said Roberts. “He’s had some bad luck in some of his starts, but today he ran a good, clean race for David.”

Denim N Diamonds Handicap
TIME TO LEAVE
by Tracy Gantz
Time To Leave’s victory in the $35,000 Denim N Diamonds Handicap at Los Alamitos on Feb. 16 harks back to two excellent female runners of two different breeds. Denim N Diamonds was R. D. Hubbard’s talented Quarter Horse, a 3-time Champion in the early 1980s. The Thoroughbred Time To Leave was a top sprinter of the 1960s who scored many of her victories not far from Los Alamitos at Hollywood Park.
Scott Willoughby trains Time To Leave for owner/breeder Dr. Ed Allred. The filly has taken some time to develop, but she “is getting better and better with every trip,” said Willoughby.
With Ramon Sanchez aboard in the Denim N Diamonds, Time To Leave broke third and quickly forged to the front. She held off Strawfinders Jessee to win by a neck. They completed the 350 yards in :17.514, posting a career-best 97 speed index.
This victory marked the filly’s third first place finish and the $19,250 winner’s share of the purse boosted her total lifetime earning’s to $36,447.
Allred bred Time To Leave in California out of his homebred winner Departing. From 16 starters, Departing has produced 11 winners, including mul- tiple graded winner Snitcher and stakes-placed Long Gone and Shut Out.
Strawfinders Jessee (One Sweet Jess- Strawfinder) finished second under Eddie Garcia for owners C. K. Allen Jr. and Laurel Allen and trainer John Cooper.
Allred also owns and bred third-place Tough To Figure (Walk Thru Fire-Big Jan), trained by Willoughby. Vinnie Bednar piloted the filly.
Chowchilla Chickadee (Foose-Buzz Chick), Thermonuclear Energy (Walk Thru Fire-Terrific Energy), On Our Way (One Sweet Jess-Attack The Cartel), Chickakid (Kiddy Up-Chickahit) and La Rusa (Walk Thru Fire-Corona Fria) completed the order of finish.
