                                Cherokee Nation Stakes
IVORYAND OAK
by John Moorehouse
Ivoryand Oak scored his first stakes win, taking the $15,500 Cherokee Nation Stakes on July 30 at Fair Meadows.
Trained by Michelle Hurdle, Ivoryand Oak broke sixth from the 2-post but worked his way up to second by the first call. Jockey Jose Vega got the gelding to the front by a head as he entered the stretch, and he held on to win by that same margin—which was rendered somewhat debatable when Country Admiral was disqualified to last for interference by the track stewards. A 16-1 longshot at the betting window, Ivoryand Oak finished the 350-yard event in :18.028, posting an 80 speed index and capturing an $8,730 prize that increased his total earnings to $21,838.
Charles Vanderford owns and bred the two-year-old gelding, who notched his second win and has finished in the money in each of his six starts, including a third- place performance in the Oklahoma Futurity Juvenile.
Vanderford also owns Show Me The Oak, the dam of Ivoryand Oak. Winning eight of 27 starts in her own competitive career, the mare has two foals thus far, with Ivoryand Oak as her first starter.
The disqualification elevated Captain Toodles (Captain Courage-Toodledoo Otoole) into second place. The Estate of Fred K. Yamaguchi owns the gelding, who is trained by R.L. Robinson and had Agustin Silva aboard. Cartel Envy officially finished third for owner Charles B. Cox and trainer Guillermo Valdivia. James Flores drew the riding assignment.
The remaining order of finish was Cartel Envy (Carters Cartel-Crazy Down Corona), JC Lovin You (Jet Black Patriot-Lovin You), Can Only Imagine (Furrtreeous-Mercy Mea), One Corona Episode (One Famous Eagle-A Corona Episode), Okies CC (Carters Cartel-Chase This Okie), Tac My Prize (Tac It Like A Man-Fast Prize Zoom), Catmandu (Red Storm Cat- Takin On A Miracle) and Country Admiral (Country Chicks Man-Azoom Babe).
Walter Merrick Stakes
ADMIRAL ZOOMWALT
by John Moorehouse
Admiral Zoomwalt scored a somewhat controver- sial win in the $17,500 Walter Merrick Memorial Stakes at Fair Meadows on July 29. The four-year-old gelding was declared the winner after Blazen Panther, who crossed the finish line first by a nose, was dis- qualified after he bore out and bumped his foe.
Admiral Zoomwalt and Blazen Panther easily established themselves as the class of the eight-horse field. James Flores took Admiral Zoomwalt across the wire 2 3/4-lengths clear.
Gerry McLean trains Admiral Zoomwalt, who fin- ished the 870-yard event in :45.983 to register a 94 speed index. The victory produced a $10,338 payday that increased the gelding’s cumulative bankroll to $86,413.
Terry McLean owns Admiral Zoomwalt, a veteran who was making his 20th start and collected his sec- ond win in stakes company—and seventh overall vic- tory. The gelding also won last year’s running of the OQHRA Fall Classic Stakes at Will Rogers Downs.
Mike Nobles and Christine Hudson bred Admiral Zoomwalt out of Tellin It All, a mare who has produced six starters among seven offspring. Admiral Zoomwalt is the only stakes winner in the brood to date.
The disqualification of Blazen Panther (Panther Mountain-Blazen Madie), which came after a review of the footage of the race by track stewards, relegated him to second place. Luz Chavira does double duty as owner and trainer. Daniel Torres drew the riding assignment.
TJ Blue Bank (Royal Blue Chew Chew-Shari Bank TB) finished third for Planefun, LLC. The Dee Keener trainee had Benjamin Lewis in the irons.
Thespeedprofessor (Furyofthewind-Dreams For Lyndsie), Droppin Timber (First Timber- Droppindead Gorgeous), Dublin My Cash (Fishin Kisses-A Lil Known Tribe), Eye Can Beatum (Beat The Feet TB-Arbeka Supreme) and Arbeka Raincloud (Voghts Gold-Arbeka Bee Quick) rounded out the finishing order.
Rocky Heinzig Memorial S.
MR JO EAGLE
by John Moorehouse
Mr Jo Eagle notched his third stakes win in the past calendar year, taking the $15,500 Rocky Heinzig Memorial by 1-length on July 29 at Fair Meadows.
A clean, steady run under rider Agustin Silva propelled Mr Jo Eagle to his latest triumph—the ninth overall in a career that has included 25 total starts. The gelding got stronger with every step of the 350-yard race, running fourth at the first call, tak- ing the lead by a head as he reached the stretch and then continuing to pull away during the final yards. R.L. Robinson trains Mr Jo Eagle, who finished in :17.525, posting a 95 speed index and capturing an $8,730 purse that boosted his bankroll to $154,084.
The five-year-old homebred gelding scored his first stakes victory last September in the Grande Prairie Stakes, then followed that with a win in the BF Phillips, Jr. Handicap.
Owner Dan Nicks also owns Mr Jo Eagle’s
dam, First Place Diamond. She won two of 11 outs before becoming a broodmare and has produced two stakes winners among six offspring. The other stakes winner is Diamond For Jess, who holds four stakes victories - three of them in graded events.
Streakin Regard (Chicks Regard-Streakin La Tac) finished a game second for owner Armando Fernandez Rivera. Trained by Alfredo Gomez, he had Oscar Delgado aboard. I V Gone (Ivory James- Bye Bye Bygones) was bumped, but still finished third for owner Celesse Fregoso and trainer Juliana Mancillas. Cody Wainscott did the riding.
The remaining order of finish was Mamasito Magic (Pappasito-Ms Optical Illusion), Ting Ting Tac (Tac It Like A Man-Jess Because I Could), Totti (Valiant Hero-Jess Maganette), Pollitical Scorpion (Apollitical Jess-Sting Scorpion Sting), Bigtime Brady (Bigtime Favorite-Streakin Duchess) and Leading Bigtime (Corona Cartel-Brenda Beautiful). Big Profitt scratched.
