PRINCESS JESSE
by Danny Camp
The Zia Handicap-RG2 at Ruidoso Downs carried a $50,000 purse on July 31. Cinco Menudos came into the race with earnings of over $300,000 and Osbaldo had earned over $400,000. But at the wire, it was Princess Jesse who was 1 1/2-lengths in front.
Princess Jesse broke on top from the number
one post with jockey Alfredo Sigala aboard, and the three-year-old sorrel filly stopped the clock at :19.766 in what was a wire-to-wire win for the 400 yards. The clocking was good for an 89 speed index.
Princess Jesse deposited the $30,000 winner’s share that boosted her bankroll to $155,100. She now has a race record of four wins out of nine outs.
Princess Jesse has finished first or second in her last six races. Her other stakes win was the Sunburst Stakes in Sunland Park in April. She also placed second in this year’s NMHBA Stakes-RG2 and New Mexico Breeders’ Stakes-RG2, and was a finalist in the 2015 New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity-RG3.
Princess Jesse is owned and trained by Vance Mikkelson who also bred the filly in New Mexico out of 6-time winner Total Miracle. The mare,
who was 3-times stakes placed, has produced 100% money earners from six starters. Princess Jesse is the first stakes winner in the brood and is a half-sister to multiple stakes placer Kaydns Krusader.
Cinco Menudos (Jesse James Jr-Uno Menudo) ran an even 2nd under Esgar Ramirez for owner William McCarty and trainer Hermenegildo Aldavaz. Osbaldo (Jesse James Jr-Shes So Blazin) was third under Ivan Carnero for owner Hubaldo Solis and trainer Ronald Stephens.
Royally Cute (Sixes Royal-Cute N Rimen), DM Nate Dog (Gonna Ro Sham Bo-Kat Kora), Booyah Bay (Brookstone Bay-Jess Brenda), Grant The
Star (Attila’s Storm TB-Stardust Dash) and Major Moonflash (First Moonflash-Prima LD) completed the order of finish.

Born To B Bad placed second in his July 15 trial heat under Ivan Carnero to qualify fifth for the $63,900 John Deere Ruidoso Juvenile
Challenge-G3. Adrian Ramos stepped in to ride after Carnero chose another mount. Ramos did a fine job in the July 30 finals. Ramos, his first time aboard the gelding, tugged on the right rein just a bit leav- ing the gate and then took Born To B Bad to a first place finish. They crossed the line a neck in front, stopping the timer at :17.631 for the 350-yard race. That earned a speed index of 88 and also a first place check worth $30,033 boosting the bay gelding’s earnings to $36,732. His race record is now two wins out of five starts.
Born To B Bad’s connections include owners Melissa Slayton and Cody Bowling, and trainer Tammy Johnson.
Bred in Texas by N. R. Stevenson and Melissa Slayton, Born To B Bad is out of 3-time winner Dosvedanya. The mare has produced 100% money earners from three starters. Born To B Bad is her first stakes winner.

Tac It To The Moon (Tac It Like A Man-Directly To The Moon) finished third under Ivan Carnero. Their connections include owner El Cabresto Racing Stables LLC and trainer Brian Muse.

Zia 870 Championship
WEAPPEAR TB
by Danny Camp
Never give up. It’s an age old saying that was played out by rider Roimes Chirinos on July 31 when he was aboard Weappear in the Zia 870
Championship at Ruidoso Downs.
Roimes and the 4-year-old Thoroughbred geld-
ing Weappear stepped away from the 4-post last but, as luck would have it, they were able to save ground around the turn. Roimes never quit riding and, as they came up the lane, Weappear was able to come through a hole to finish in second place.
The pair stopped the clock at :46.422 to earn a speed index of 88. Then, when the stewards decided the winner had interfered and was disqualified, Weappear was awarded the first place money. With a total purse of $50,000, Weappear deposited the $30,000 winner’s share.
The gelding now has a total bankroll worth $94,572 and a race record of four wins out of 13 starts, including a second-place finish in the June 17 NMHA Handicap at SunRay Park. His connections include owner Ruth Summers and trainer Nancy Summers.
Weappear was bred in New Mexico by Tony Pickard, DVM, out of the lightly raced mare Reappear, who has produced only this one foal.
Swiss Chris (Swissle Stick TB-Ace Crystal Charm) placed second for owner Moises Brito Hernandez and trainer Armando Quintanilla Jr. Adrian Ramos was in the saddle. DM Ada Kat (Gonna Ro Sham Bo-Kat Kora) went wide but
was able to get up for third place. His connec- tions include owner Derrell Riggan and trainer Clifford Lambert, Sr. Oscar Cordova was handling the reins. Followed by Tag Yur It (Roll Hennessy Roll TB-Upside Down), Infinite Bull TB (King Bull-Fancy Numbers), An Absolut Diamond (Ketel Won-The Millennium Star), El Tormenta Perfecta (Brookstone Bay-Storm Run), & DQd from first to last Coronas Boy (Mr Houston-My First Corona).
