Gamey Tee Cos (#8) & Manuel Gutierrez qualify after finishing 2nd in their heat
Day 2, Race #14
Gamey Tee Cos posted the 5th-fastest time on the 2nd day of trials for the All Ameri- can Futurity by finishing 2nd in the 14th of 15 trials. Coro- nas First Diva, who won the race, set the day’s top time of :21.500, followed by Gamey Tee Cos’ time of :21.689. While Gamey Tee Cos was no match for the winner, his solid 2nd-place effort saw him
cross the line 2-lengths in front of his nearest competitor. The All American would have been Gamey Tee Cos’ 2nd stakes appearance, as the colt also qualified to & ran in the West Texas Futurity-G2, where he crossed the wire 6th and was advanced to 3rd due to multiple disqualifications resulting from medication violations. Juventino Ruiz trained Gamey Tee Cos at Sunland Park, while Salvador Soto took over for new owners Arturo Reyes & Isidro Reyes at Ruidoso Downs. The colt was a $50,000 supplement to the All American Futurity trials, and while the gamble initially paid off, misfortune quickly followed when the 2 year old later died in the test barn after his All American Futurity trial. His connections will pick up 10th-place money for the Gamey Tee Cos, who was the 1st foal out of winner Gamey Girl. Gamey Tee Cos, whose 2nd dam was stakes winner See My Runaway, sold for $9,500 at the 2015 Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Yearling Sale.
Like stablemate Koolnfamous, Volcoms Lady waited until the All American Futurity trials
to make her 1st trip to the winner’s circle. Her first 2 starts were in maiden company at Ruidoso Downs. She ran 8th in her debut, then returned to finish 3rd after hopping at the start, grabbing the lead shortly in mid-stretch and yielding late. Volcoms Lady experi-
enced a much better start in her All American Futurity trial, breaking on the lead from post position one. She led by 1/2-length in mid-stretch, and held on for a neck victory over favorite Teller Baja, who was vanned off. Volcoms Lady’s 49-1 longshot win in :21.705 clinched the final qualifying spot from day one. Tyler Graham paid $18,500 at the 2015 Heritage Place Select Yearling Sale for Vol- coms Lady, who is by Volcom, sire of All American Futurity winner JM Miracle si 101 ($1,489,462). Bred by P. K. Thomas, Volcoms Lady is out of Lethal Cash si 99 ($52,965). She has already produced 7 winners from 9 starters including 5-time winner Mr Jesse Cash si 96 ($76,864) and Grade 3-placed Lethal Factor si 93 ($47,362), both half-siblings to Volcoms Lady. This is the same maternal family that produced JM Miracle, as Lethal Weapon is the 3rd dam of both JM Miracle & Volcoms Lady. There is another All American Futurity winner in this pedigree as well, as as Lethal Weapon is out of a 1/2-sister to Timeto Thinkrich.
