JJ HEZA FAST DASH JR
Jby Michael Compton
J Heza Fast Dash Jr ran to his name in the
$40,000 Open Me A Corona Stakes-RG2 at Delta Downs on April 30, proving too quick for 9 rivals in the 350-yard test.
Ridden by Ricardo Hernandez, JJ Heza Fast Dash Jr, who was dismissed at odds of 22-1, dueled for the lead throughout after hooking up with fellow longshot JRS Shiney Tee after the break. JJ Heza Fast Dash Jr and Hernandez broke from the far outside posts and rolled through the lane together with JRS Shiny Tee, prevailing by a head at the finish. It was another length back to third-place finisher Put Me N Coach. The winner stopped the timer in :17.583 and earned a speed index of 90 for trainer Jose Carrizales.
Owned and bred by J and J Stables LLC, JJ Heza Fast Dash Jr is now a winner in five of 17 lifetime starts, and the $24,000 winner’s share of the purse increased his bankroll to $75,538. Bred in Louisiana, JJ Heza Fast Dash Jr is produced from the unraced Mr Jess Perry mare Forever Real.
Runner-up JRS Shiney Tee (Tee Cos), ridden by Randy Edison, was game in defeat for owner Kathy Goodale and trainer David Bustamante. Julien Stevens III bred the 4-year-old gelding in Louisiana.

Old South Derby
SHESA KNOCKOUTCARTEL
Sby Michael Compton
hesa Knockoutcartel has an obvious affinity for the
track surface at Delta Downs. The three-year-old sorrel filly annexed the Louisiana Juvenile Stakes at Delta Downs last year as a two-year-old, and the sorrel filly returned to the site of her initial stakes victory and notched the second stakes score of her career with a facile win in the $89,425 Old South Derby on May 20.
Ridden by Everardo Rodriguez, Shesa Knockoutcartel broke sharply from the 4-gate and shot to the lead at the break of the 350-yard test.
She dueled in the early stages with JJ Coronas Star before clearing off from the field in the lane. Sent off as a mild favorite in the race, Shesa Knockoutcartel was never headed and finished well. She crossed the finish line a length ahead of runner-up Jesstice for All to score in a final clocking of :17.842, earning an 82 speed index.
Owned and bred by BM AQ Racing LLC and trained by Martin Trejo, Shesa Knockoutcartel added the $44,713 winner’s share of the purse to her coffers, increasing her bankroll to $111,213. The win improved her overall record to 9-4-2-1 and she is perfect in a pair of starts this season. Bred in Louisiana, Shesa Knockoutcartel is produced from the Royal Quick Dash mare Lady Knockout.
Jockey Gilbert Ortiz piloted Jesstice For All (Corona Cartel-Jess Cuz) to second for owners Denis and Julie Schoenhofer and trainer M. Taylor. JJ Coronas Star (Coronas Leaving You-Jess A Little Star) finished third in the colors of J and J Stables for trainer Luis Martinez. Mothers Day Stakes
SHEZA FREIGHTTRAIN T
Gby Michael Compton
raded stakes winner Sheza Freighttrain T towered
over the rivals she faced in the $35,000 Mother’s Day Stakes at Delta Downs on May 21, and the expected result saw the accomplished filly and odds-on favorite dominate six foes in the 350-yard dash.
Ridden by Everardo Rodriquez, Sheza Freighttrain T flashed her customary speed away from the gate at the start. She dueled early with
KP Prospect and after putting that one away, she opened 2 lengths on the field in the lane. She was never headed and finished full of run to win by 1 3/4-lengths at the wire, defeating runner-up Tee Zo in a clocking of :17.505, good for a 92 speed index.
Owned by Patrick Richardson and trained by Charles Shults, Sheza Freighttrain T improved her record to 18-11-5-0 and the $21,000 winner’s share of the purse increased her bankroll to $474,605.
