THE SECRET PRIZE

he Secret Prize, a gelded son of Hez Our Secret and
the fastest qualifier, sprinted to a half-length victory in the $25,245 Gary & Sharilyn Blatner Memorial Derby at Pocatello Downs on May 22.
Prepped by Mark Hanson for owners RTM Stables, Robin Dunn, Kevin Dunn, and Bryon Goody, The Secret Prize covered 350 yards in :17.603. Jesus Canales rode the gelding, who earned $11,730 from his first career stakes win.
The Secret Prize made his season debut with a 1/2-length victory in the first of two trials on May 7. The gelding was bred in Texas by Weetona Stanley, and he was purchased by Jim Hanson for $22,000 at the 2020 Heritage Place Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City.
The Secret Prize is out of First Prize Shaunda,
a homebred 12-year-old daughter of Pyc Paint Your Wagon who won the 2014 Decketta Stakes-G3 at Remington Park. His second dam, the homebred graded stakes winning Mr Jess Perry mare First Prize Leesa, produced the graded stakes winning Pyc Paint Your Wagon colt Barue. The Secret Prize traces back to his third dam, AQHA Dam of Distinction First Prize Dash.
All told, the gelding has won three of eight starts and has banked $20,921.
Leaving Angelz (Coronas Leaving You-Angel Eyez) finished second for owner Ruben Magallanes. Santiago Jimenez rode the gelding for trainer Hector Magallanes.
Apolinaria Prize (Fast Prize Cartel-SS Calendar Girl) ran third under Cesar Moreno for owner Ebelin Orozco and trainer Edwin Rosales.
Katie Perry (Five Bar Cartel-Sexy Perry) finished fourth and was followed by VF Give Me A Prize (First Prize Stanley-Red Temptress), Riddle (Zoomin For Bux-Go Go Getter), L Bar D Mistr Cartel (Majestic Cartel-Fly Misty Fly), Eagle Assault (One Famous Eagle-First Prize Joy), and Majesty Perry (Tee Cos- Swingin Gator). Phire Away was scratched.

nofre Hernandez’s B The One, a 3-year-old son
of the Corona Cartel stallion Five Bar Cartel, made his sophomore season debut with a 3/4-length victory in the $15,000 Pocatello Downs Spring Championship on May 22.
Trained by Javier Duarte, B The One led at every call while covering his 350-yard trip in :17.527 and posting a 101 speed index. Cesar Moreno rode the colt.
B The One was bred in Oklahoma by Randy
and Stacy Hill, and he was a $17,000 purchase at the 2020 Heritage Place Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City.
The colt is out of KT Perry, an 8-year-old daughter of Champion Mr Jess Perry. His second dam, the Stoli mare XO Kate, won the 2010 Harrah’s Distaff Stakes-G3 at Louisiana Downs and was a finalist in three Grade 1 futurities during her 2-year-old season. XO Kate produced Grade 2 winner Game Changes, a half-brother to KT Perry.
B The One was making his first start since Nov. 9 when the colt was placed ninth in the $80,510 Far West Futurity at Grants Pass Downs. B The One has won four of nine races and has banked $36,170, and his resume includes a second-place finish in last year’s $119,110 Bitterroot Futurity-RG3.
No Juans Fool (Fastnfierce-Juan Full Corona) finished second for his owner Sergio Leon, who also trains the 4-year-old gelding. Jose Antonio Figueroa rode No Juans Fool. Fancy Mamasita (Pappasito- Miss Flying Jessie) ran third under Jesus Valenzuela r for owner Miguel Zavala and trainer Adrian Zavala.
Shesa Dashair (Dashair-Shesaspeedin Bullet), Treinta Coronas (Freighttrain B-Its Corona Thirty), Ocean Voyage (Ocean Runaway-Cassies Jet Voyage), Str Monte Carlo (Furrtreeous-A Hot Chick), Jess Your Corona (Daguerre-Stoli Your Corona), Arizona Favorite (Favorite Cartel-Check Her For Cash),
and Fantastic (Fantastic Corona Jr-Blaze The Mall) completed the order of finish.
QROOI Sprint Series #1
CARNEROS

arneros scores his third victory in a row in
the $15,421 QROOI Sprint Series #1 at Ajax Downs on May 22.
Ridden by Brian Bell, the gelding broke on top for a wire-to-wire victory by a neck. They completed the 110 yards in :6.889, while posting a 103 speed index.
Trained by Jason Pascoe, Carners secured the $6,563 winner’s share of the purse for owner Milena Kwiecien, boosting his total lifetime earnings to $114,732.
Carneros is no stranger to stakes events, making 41 total starts during his career. In addition to
the QROOI Sprint Stakes #1, he has also won the 2020 edition of this race. He was a runner-up in the Picov Derby, Ajax Juvenile Challenge, QROOI Sprint Series #2, Ajax Downs Bonus Derby Challenge and QROOI Sprint Series #3. In 2019, Carneros set two New Track Records at 110 yards and 220 yards.
Stone Chase Stables LLC bred Carneros out of multiple winner Cakebread And Thou. Carneros is her first foal.
Zoxtobeyou (Pappasito-A Leading Memory) gave it his best try and came away with the second place check. Connections include owner Steve Hunter and trainer Janet Grice. Lloyd Desouza was handling the reins. Fiesty Icon (Sugarman Perry-Fiesty Spirit) ran a steady and even race to capture third place under Tony Phillips for owner/trainer Richard Kennedy. The gelding has won five stakes races, including last year’s Ontario Sires Stakes Maturity.
Maryland Magic (PYC Paint Your Wagon- Purley Un Social), Chicksdigmymoneybags (Chicks Regard-Aaneta), Eye Am The Eagle (One Dashing Eagle-Imagine If ) and Pretty Runaway (Winners Award-Pretty Jane Perry) completed the order of finish.
