astest qualifier Eyesa Special Swirl scored her first
stakes victory in the $16,000 Dan Lockie Derby at the Bucking Horse Sale in Miles City, Montana.
Ridden by Luis Peralta, the filly didn’t break on top, but steadily gained ground. She closed on her com- petition in the final yards to cross the wire by 1-length. They completed the 300 yards in :14.786, while posting a 123 speed index. The clocking was good for
a New Track Record, demolishing the previous record set in 2011 of :15.461. Trained by Jesse Villegas, Eyesa Special Swirl collected the $8,000 winner’s share of
the purse for owner/breeder Broken Bones Cattle Co., which boosted her total bankroll to $38,743.
From 11 starts, Eyesa Special Swirl has won seven races and was a runner-up in last year’s Rock Springs Wyoming Accredited Stallion Futurity.
Broken Bones Cattle Co. bred Eyesa Special Swirl out of unraced Lil Charlotte Swirl. She has produced two winners, both stakes winners, from three starters, including top earner Eyesa Special Snoopi, who won the 2019 Ron Cook Wyoming Bred Futurity and was third in the 2020 KC Carden Wyoming Bred Derby.

Monty Arrossa trains Jet Wings One for owner Connie Moon. Jet Wings One previously won the 2021 Adequan Los Alamitos Derby Challenge, finished second in the 2021 Independence Day Handicap-G3 and 2020 Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity-G2, and ran third in the 2021 Sgt Pepper Feature Handicap.

Kaweah Bar Handicap-G3
CIRCLE CITY
Dby Tracy Gantz
espite throwing his head at the start, which
would have ended the chances of many
horses, Circle City won the $35,000 Kaweah
Bar Handicap-G3 at Los Alamitos on April 30. That gave owner Dr. Ed Allred and trainer Scott Willoughby their third win in the race over the past four years, following Chocolatito in 2020 and Well And Good in 2019.
The 13-10 favorite under jockey Jesus Ayala, Circle City recovered quickly after throwing his head when the gate opened. He flew to the front and scored by 3/4-length in :17.471 for 350 yards.
Circle City nearly gave Allred and Willoughby four Kaweah Bar wins in a row. Last year he finished third in the race. He has won the 2021 Vessels Maturity-G1, 2021 Spencer L. Childers California Breeders Championship Handicap-RG1 and 2020 Golden State Derby-G2.
Allred bred Circle City in California from two- time stakes winner Moonlight Corona. A half-sister to Champion Your First Moon and Grade 1 winner Not A Full Moon, Moonlight Corona has produced 19 winners from 23 starters including multiple graded stakes winner Nomadic, stakes winner Lovely Evening, and stakes-placed Stroller.
Cattail Cove (Favorite Cartel-Katie Katella), ridden by Ramon Sanchez, owned by Link Newcomb and trained by Juan Aleman finished second. The 5-year-old gelding has placed in eight other stakes.
Ruben Lozano piloted Valiantt (Valiant Hero- Astica) to third for owner Rancho AA LLC and trainer Valentin Zamudio. A 4-year-old gelding and three-time winner, Valiantt was placing in his first stakes.
