Iron Horse Stakes
STAUBAUCH
Nby Danny Camp
o stranger to stakes events, Staubauch scored
his third stakes win in the $15,135 Iron Horse Stakes at Weber Downs on April 30.
Ridden by Jesus Canales, the gelding broke on top from the 4-post and was clearly best. He was never headed throughout the 350 yards to cross the wire 3/4-length in front, stopping the timer in :17.740 for a 101 speed index.
Trained by Sergio Canales, Staubauch collected the $6,054 winner’s share of the purse for owner Gabriel Caballo, which boosted his total lifetime earnings to $61,620.
Staubauch now has a race record of 27-10(3)- 5(1)-3(1) with his other stakes wins being in the 2018 South Valley Futurity and the 2020 John Ward Handicap. He was also second in the 2021 Legacy Coin & David Hinkins Maturity and third in the 2021 Blane Schvaneveldt Handicap.
Ralph & Carolyn Fales bred Staubauch out of unraced Girls Rock. She has produced six winners from seven starters, including stakes placed Cruisen and Mygirlrox. Staubauch is her first stakes winner.
Echo Of Thunder (Turbulent Times-BF Memory Lane) was able to secure second place under Oscar Cervantes for owner Virginia Ruiz and trainer
Jorge Estrada Jr. The gelding won last year’s Lobo Derby and Eye On Corona Derby as well as the
2020 Beehive Futurity. Proud Movin Renegade (Maknmoves-Proud Moon Bug) and jockey Jesus Valenzuela finished in third for owner XG Bar Racing LLC and trainer Riley Moosman. The gelding won the 2020 Bitterroot Futurity-G3 and last year’s Weber Downs Derby Challenge. Fantastic Minion (Fantastic Corona Jr-Gigarad), Raging Burst (A Regal Burst-Rare Dixie Dash), Playn Captain (Captain Courage-Playful Choices) and Sassy Daddy (Big Daddy Cartel-Frosty Dreams) completed the order of finish.
