SHE GOES UP
Wby Tracy Gantz
hile trainer Scott Willoughby says that She
Goes Up can run well from any post position, the filly has definitely done well from the rail.
Both of her stakes victories have come from there, including in the $35,000 La Pacifica Handicap at Los Alamitos on May 7.
When the gate opened, She Goes Up flew to the lead for jockey Jonathan Roman and went wire-to-wire in the event. Nobody had a chance to close ground, and She Goes Up sped to the wire 1 1/4-lengths in front, stopping the timer in :17.544.
Dr. Ed Allred bred She Goes Up in California, and she races for her breeder. She Goes Up won the 2021 Governor’s Cup Futurity-RG1 and finished third in the 2021 Fred Scane Memorial Handicap.
Up For It, who also won the Governor’s Cup Futurity for Allred, is the dam of She Goes Up. The mare has produced six winners in nine starters, including Graded stakes-placed Up For Speed. She Goes Up’s third dam, Flare For Toby, is a multiple Grade 1 winner.

Her Over had two of her foals in the $35,000 Dillingham Handicap for 3-year-olds at Los Alamitos on May 14, and they finished first and last. Watch Out came away the winner, while a slow start compromised the chances of Look Up.
Favorite Honey, the 6-5 favorite, led early in the 400-yard Dillingham. But Watch Out came on strongly in the last half of the race to score by a 1/2-length in :19.854.
James Glenn Jr. trains Watch Out for Allred. Watch Out was winning his first stakes, though he finished second in the 2021 Governor’s Cup Futurity-RG1.
Allred has bred Watch Out’s family back through stakes winner Oh La Proud, the gelding’s second dam. Oh La Proud, an AQHA Dam of Distinction, has produced Champions Flame N Flash, Hawkish, and Hawkinson. Look Her Over, also a stakes winner, is the dam of 19 winners in 22 starters, including World Champion He Looks Hot; and stakes winners Once Over, Take A Look, and Could Be Hotter; as well as five stakes-placed runners.
Jesus Ayala rode Favorite Honey (Favorite Cartel-Coronas Fast Honey) to second for owners Five Livestock Company LLC and Steve Wright and trainer Monty Arrossa. Favorite Honey won the 2021 PCQHRA Breeders’ Futurity-G2.
Allred also bred third-place finisher All Ways (Fly Thru The Fire-Million Ways), owned by Boardshorts Stables LLC, trained by Juan Aleman, and ridden by Ramon Sanchez. All Ways won two allowance races earlier this year.
