  PERTY DIRTY DUDE
Perty Dirty Dude unleashed a strong rally down the stretch to win the 6-furlong New Mexico Cup Sprint Championship (R) at Zia Park on October 27.
Trained by Dick Cappelucci for owners Jeff Stinson and Miguel Mungia, Perty Dirty Dude defeated 9-5 favorite Rig Time by a half of a length in 1:11.88. Francisco Arrieta rode the 7-year-old Elusive Jazz stallion, who pocketed the $105,000 winner’s share of the $175,000 purse.
Perty Dirty Dude was bred by John Pinkerton, and he was shortening in distance off of his three-quarter length victory in a 6 1/2-furlong, $33,000 first-level allowance race at Zia Park on October 7. Perty Dirty Dude is one of nine winners from 11 starters sired by Elusive Jazz, a Kentucky-bred son of the Gone West stallion Elusive Quality.
Raced in five states from 2003-06, Elusive Jazz banked $372,571 from 20 starts, and his five wins included the 2005 Phoenix Breeders’ Cup Stakes (G3) at Keeneland. The stallion has sired the earners of more than $997,000, including three-time stakes winner My Bikini Fell Off.
Perty Dirty Dude is also one of five win- ners from as many starters produced by Perty
Gerty, a winning Kentucky-bred daughter of the Mt. Livermore stallion Peaks And Valleys. His second dam, the Explodent mare Bad Gerty, won three stakes in New Jersey from 1991-93, and was a half-sister to Thiscannonsloaded, a Wild Escapade colt who ran third in the ’02 Holy Bull Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park.
Perty Dirty Dude’s third dam, the winning Good Behaving mare Good Gerty, ran third
in the 1982 Geisha Handicap at Thistledown. The stallion traces back to his fourth dam, Sturdy Gerty, a multiple stakes winning daugh- ter of Rough’n Tumble.
A $10,000 claimer during the 2018 Zia Park meet, Perty Dirty Dude has won 10 of 44 starts and has earned $339,137. His record includes
a third-place finish, a half of a length behind winner Forger, in the 2017 New Mexico Cup Sprint Championship (R).
Gunners One finished third, four lengths behind Perty Dirty Dude, and was fol- lowed by Mr. Mooch, Red Zenon, Four Star Saint, Flying Rollex, D E Lover, Forger, Golden Band, Gonna’ Rock N Roll, and Wheredoesthecashgo.
Rig Time is a 4-year-old homebred son of the Unbridled’s Song stallion Right Rigger
campaigned by brothers Larry Teague and Harry Teague of Hobbs, New Mexico. The gray or roan gelding has banked $210,454 from 18 outs, and his five wins include last year’s Road Runner Handicap (R) for New Mexico- bred sophomores at Ruidoso Downs.
A homebred son of the Artax stallion Diabolical, Gunners One has won six of 15 starts for his owner, Tommy Gunstream. The dark bay or brown gelding has earned $175,445, of which $153,615 has been banked this year, and his season resume includes a neck victory in the 7-furlong, $85,000 O.D. McDonald Handicap (R) at Albuquerque Downs on June 29.
