Night Fishn scored her first stakes victory in the $43,861 Ontario Sires Stakes Maturity at Ajax Downs on Sept. 2.
Trained by Greg Watson and owned by Mary Schrama, Night Fishn made a clean break from the 7-post and put on pressure on the front-runners from the outside.
By the time Ghost Pines entered the stretch in the lead, Night Fishn was running in third. The filly then made her move, chasing down the competitors in front of her and beat- ing Fiesty Icon to the wire by a head.
Jockey Corrine Andros was in the irons as the filly completed her 330-yard trip in :16.690, registering
a career high 101 speed index while benefiting from a 26 mph tailwind.
This victory marked Night Fishn’s fourth time in the winner’s circle from seven starts. The $17,722 winner’s share of the purse boosted her total lifetime earnings to $35,812.
Schrama bred Night Fishn out of 2-time winner Fisher Lines, who was second in the 2011 Princess Stakes Derby. She has produced 100% winners from two start-
ers, including top earner and 2017 Canada Hi-Point Aged Mare Ice Fishn, who won the 2015 Ontario Sires Stakes Futurity and placed third in the 2017 Ontario Sires Stakes Maturity.
Fiesty Icon (Sugarman Perry- Fiesty Spirit) was second under Tony Phillips for owner/trainer Richard Kennedy.
Albertt (Mr Jess Tex- Squincheyes) and Cassandra Jeschke were third for owner/ trainer Scott Reid.
Ice Witch (Iced N Oak-The Witching Hour), Ghost Pines (Fire Finder-Quick Six Lady), Sugarmans Delight (Sugarman Perry-Wonders Delight), Home To Vegas (Down Home Dash-Cash Into Vegas), Ice N Snow (Iced N Oak-Victorious Snow) and Sweet Pagrana (Winners Award-Lady Pagrana) completed the order of finish.
