ODonovan Rossa added another Graded stakes victory to his impressive body of work, winning the $25,806 Distance Will Rogers Downs
Distance Challenge-G3 by a commanding 3 1/4-lengths on Oct. 1.
A huge favorite at 1-20 odds at post time, O Donovan Rossa lived up to those lofty expectations.
The gelding broke well and opened a 1-length lead by the first call. O Donovan Rossa maintained that separation going into the stretch, then pulled away during the final yards to win by a margin of
3 1/4-lengths.
Trained by Dee Keener, the 870-yard trip took :45.936, registering a 94 speed index. The $13,419 first- place share of the purse improved the gelding’s total earnings to the cusp of a quarter-million at $245,184.
Owned by Kelly Yother Equine LLC and bred by J. Garvan Kelly, O Donovan Rossa got to the winner’s circle for the 10th time in 31 career starts. That includes Graded stakes victories, joining this year’s running of the Pauls Valley Stakes-G2 and last year’s version of the SLM Big Daddy Stakes-G3 at Remington. The six-year-old gelding has five total stakes wins, also capturing the 2022 versions of the Walter Merrick and Devil His Due Stakes.
O Donovan Rossa now sets his sights on the Cox Distance Challenge Championship-G1 on Oct. 21 at Lone Star Park.
Dance The Dust Off (Coronas Blackdiamond- Magic Yard TB) and The Dream (FDD Dynasty- Eyesa Precious) finished in a dead heat for second. Jewel Ramirez owns Dance The Dust Off, a Clay Teeter trainee who had Nakia Teeter aboard. The Dream is owned by Debra Gotovac, trained by Bradley Bolen, and had Roman Cruz in the irons.
R U Freal (Freal-My Bandera Beauty) and DF Storm Tales (Wagon Tales-Storm’s Promise TB) rounded out the field.

PV Quarter Horses LLC’s homebred filly Jess Call Me Candy secured her first stakes win in the $25,925 Miss Ellen Stakes at Will Rogers
Downs on Oct. 15.

Me Candy had a flawless wire-to-wire run, stopping the timer at :17.742 and earning a
93 speed index. The $15,738 winner’s share of the purse increased the filly’s total bankroll to $87,404 and the win improved her record to five firsts, three seconds, and three thirds from 15 starts.
Bred in Oklahoma, Jess Call Me Candy is out of stakes winner Send Me Good Candy, who won the 2016 version of this race and placed second in the 2015 Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Futurity-RG2. The 2013 mare has produced one winner from two starters.
Corona Relentless (Hes Relentless- Coronas Concierge) pocketed the runner-up share of $4,746 for owner Roberto Zuniga- Rios, trainer Lucio Espiritu and was ridden by Roman Cruz. The five year old won the Rocky Heinzig Stakes at Fair Meadows
in July.
Under Ruben Castro, Suzy De Capi (Capo De Capi-Shaken Pappasito) crossed the finish line third for owners James Sills and Abelardo H. Flores, Jr. The filly is trained by Eddie Willis.
The remaining order of finish was Candy Going Grand (FDD Going Grand-Jess Send Me Candy), Relentless Babe (Hes Relentless-Mai Corona), Effortlessly Blazin (TF Featured Effort-Miss Blazin First), Takin Jacque (Docs Best Card-Takin On Smashingly), and Pretty Lie (Tempting Dash-Pretty Little Liar). Political Fire was scratched.

Lynnder 16 is making it a habit to win the Will Rogers Distaff Challenge. The seven-year-old mare logged her third straight victory in that race,
taking the 2023 version of the $36,465 Q-Racing Video Will Rogers Distaff Challenge held Oct. 1. The heavy post-time favorite at 1-2 odds,
Lynnder 16 got stronger with every stride in this 400-yard race. The mare broke well from the outside gate in a nine-horse field, grabbed the lead by the time she went into the stretch, and pulled away to win by 1 1/2-lengths.
Jason Olmstead trains Lynnder 16, who finished the race in :19.658 for a 101 speed index. The $16,774 first-place share of the purse improved her total bankroll to $874,037.
Tom Maher and Richard Tobin own Lynnder 16, who posted her third win in four starts
this season and collected her 21st victory in 40 career outs.
James and Marilyn Helzer bred Lynnder 16 out of Tinys Corona Queen, a lightly-raced 2005 mare.
Glamazon (A Revenant-Eat The Fish) finished second for owner Marisol Alvarado and trainer Juvenal Licona-Vazquez. Noe Garcia Jr. had the riding assignment.
Paint Your Lips P (Jess Good Candy-Jess Paint Your Lips) hit the board in third for Priscilla Yvette Arredondo. The Kevin Willis trainee had Jhaciel Soto in the irons.
The remaining order of finish was Apocalyptical Sis (Apollitical Jess-CC Seis), AB What A Kiss (Kiss My Hocks-Apolliticals Lady), Mperativ (Apollitical Jess-Miss Aguilar), Jess Ride My Wagon (Mr Jess Perry-Ride My Wagon), Political Fire (Apollitical Jess-Lady Perry On Fire) and BV Living For
Love (BV Travelin Soldier-One Famous Folly). Dedikated was scratched.
