Valerie Shoun’s WB Dashing Brat broke his maiden in the 250-yard South Dakota Bred Derby for state-bred 3-year-olds at Fort Pierre on Oct. 8.
Ridden by Larren Delorme for trainer Robert Johnson and aided by a reported 8-mph tail wind, WB Dashing Brat led at every call and reached the wire 1/2-length in front of BHR Light My Spark
in :13.555. The homebred son of the Mr Jess Perry stallion Mr Apollitical Dash earned a 91 speed index and the $7,500 winner’s share of the $15,000 purse.
WB Dashing Brat was coming off of a second-place finish in a 350-yard maiden claiming ($10,000) dash at Prairie Meadows in Iowa on Sept. 23. The sorrel gelding is out of Bratina, an unplaced daughter of the First Down Dash stallion Holland Ease. He traces back to his fourth dam, O’Lonesome Me, a winning and multiple stakes placed mare and a finalist in the 1974 West Texas, Sun Country, and New Mexico State Fair futurities.
Raced in five states, WB Dashing Brat has won one of 14 starts and has banked $25,644, of which $16,146 has been pocketed from eight outs this season. The gelding’s resume includes a second-place finish in last year’s 250-yard $15,000 Ft. Pierre South Dakota Bred Futurity.
BHR Light My Spark (First Down Mr Jess-BHR Guys Flash Me) earned the $3,750 runner-up share of the purse for owner Broken Heart Ranch. Alexis E. Ramirez rode the homebred gelding for trainer Robert Johnson.
Streak Of Luck (A Streak Of Fling-Crescent Moon Dash) ran third, 1-length behind WB Dashing Brat, while banking $2,250 for owner Charles Brewer. Dakota Wood rode the homebred gelding for trainer Robert Johnson.
BHR The Bomb Dot Com (One Mean Eagle-BHR Eau So Flashy) completed the order of finish.

That Reckless Pete made his stakes debut a winning one, prevailing in the $15,000 South Dakota Bred Futurity Division 1 at Fort Pierre on Oct. 7.
Ridden by Larren Delome, That Reckless Pete dueled throughout with odds-on favorite BHR Flashing Nickers. The pair hooked up at the start of the 250-yard fixture and battled to the finish, with That Reckless Pete reaching the wire first
by a neck. The gray gelding stopped the timer in :13.474 fo a 95 speed index.
A South Dakota homebred for Valeria Shoun, That Reckless Pete is trained by Robert Johnson who saddled the top three finishers in this race. The $7,500 winner’s share of the purse increased That Reckless Pete’s bankroll to $17,215. With the win, That Reckless Pete improved his record to 9-2-0-3.
A two-year-old son of TF Im That Guy, That Reckless Pete is produced from the winning Jess Eye mare Jess Dizzy Lizzy, a two-time winner during her racing career.
BHR Flashing Nickers (One Mean Eagle- BHR Guys Flash Me), with Uriel Cervantes aboard, just missed for owner-breeder Broken Heart Ranch. Also trained by Johnson, BHR Flashing Nickers is now multiple stakes placed. The filly owns a record of 9-1-3-2, and she broke her maiden in August at Prairie Meadows.
Flashin My Moons (CS Flashlight-CB Mooned by Fame), piloted by Dakota Wood, finished third, 3 3/4-lengths behind the runner-up. Also trained by Johnson, the gray filly, who is still in search of her first career win, is a South Dakota homebred for Lisa O’Rourke-Fulton.
Keystone Eagle (Reagal Eagle-Dominican) completed the order of finish.

JJS Royal Time registered his third win and first in a stakes event with a victory in the $15,000 South Dakota Bred Futurity Division 2 at Fort Pierre on Oct. 7.
Ridden by A.E. Ramirez, JJS Royal Time raced in third position early in the 250-yard test. He took command in the lane and surged clear late to defeat Hasta Be Ivory by 3/4-length. He covered the distance in :13.528, while posting a 92 speed index.
A South Dakota homebred for Jerry Oxner, the brown gelding is trained by Tyler Stein. With the win, JJS Royal Time improved
his record to 6-3-0-0, and the $7,350 winner’s share of the purse increased his earnings total to $21,595. JJS Royal time won for the first time
in June at Prairie Meadows, and he is a son of
Its Royal Time out of the multiple stakes-placed Effortlessly Strut, a three-time winner during her racing career.
Hasta Be Ivory (Hasta Be Fast-Tickle The Ivorys) offered game chase through the lane under Uriel Cervantes to finish second for owner Kacee Etzkorn. Trained by Robert Johnson, Hasta Be Ivory was bred in South Dakota by John Johnson. The brown filly is a two-time winner. She broke her maiden in August at Prairie Meadows and then captured an allowance race in her next outing.
BHR So Long Charlie (One Mean Eagle-BHR Missy Special) flashed speed early under Dakota Wood and held third for owner/breeder Broken Heart Ranch. The bay gelding is trained by Johnson and is still in search of his initial victory after five starts.
Icon Doit (Texas Icon-Hawktomistic) and Rocken Remi (Mr Apollitical Dash-Bratina) completed the order of finish.
