440 and 300 yards. In 1972, she won two All Distance Championships at 440 and 300 yards. Her success wasn’t limited to the All Distance Championship Series. She won
the 1969 and 1972 Kansas Maturity at 400 yards at La Mesa. She won the Timberline Handicap at 350 yards at Centennial five times from 1968 to 1972. She also won the 1969 and the 1971 Colorado Wonderland Handicaps at 440 yards at Centennial. She won the 1972 Aspen Stakes at 400 yards at Centennial, the 1968 Zeff Walters Memorial at 350 yards at Blue Ribbon Downs and the 1972 Senoritas De Santa Fe Handicap at 400 yards at Santa Fe Down. The AQHA credits her with three New Track Records
on September 7, 1970, when she went 300 yards in :15.23 at La Mesa Park; 350 yards in :17.46 at Sunland Park on March 15, 1970, and 400 yards in :19.51 at Sunland Park on April 26, 1970. She won $84,473 and was the 1971 Champion Aged Mare.
The pedigree of Jolly Jet Deck is an interesting one that gives us an initial look at the ability of Jet Deck to cross with a variety of broodmare sires. She is out of Jolly Copper, a mare with a foundation pedigree. She was an AAA rated runner that was a race winner of four starts in 20 races with two seconds. She was the dam of 11 starters with
seven ROM and five of them earned a speed index above 90. Jolly Jet Deck was her stakes winner and Assistor was her stakes placed runner. Assistor is the dam of Copper Bugs, who was third in the 1984 All American Futurity-G1 and winner of his trials for the All American Futurity and the All American Derby-G1.
The sire of Jolly Copper is Lewis’ Mass Of Copper, who was A rated as a runner earning his ROM. The A rating was probably the second fastest speed rating in the time he was a runner. He was an ROM sire of such runners as Jolley Copper, Big Red Copper, Copper Scat, Lewis’ Ace and Lotta Copper.
He was sired by Can Do, an ROM runner that sired a number of ROM racehorses, including Apple Sauce, Betty Do, Dirty Dave, Kanzo, Kanzo II, Lady Do, Little Do, Might Do, Miss Cando, Mr Do, Ruby Do, Snooper Do and Won’t Do. Mr Do was second in the 1954 Kansas Futurity, Kanzo was second in the 1952 Meade Kansas Derby, and Might
Do was third in the 1952 Oklahoma Futurity. Won’t Do made 147 starts racing from 1954 to 1964 with 24 wins, 15 seconds and 18 thirds earning $17,533.
Can Do was sired by Rondo Oklahoma, who was sired by Walt’s Little Buck by
the Bud Bennet Horse by Yellow Jacket.
Yellow Jacket was sired by Little Rondo, and he was out of Barbee Dun by Locks Rondo. Little Rondo was sired by Locks Rondo by Whalebone by Old Billy, the famous South Texas foundation sire. The dam of Can Do was Star by Highwayman by Prince Pal. The dam of Star was a mare by Yellow Wolf, a grandaughter of Old Joe Bailey. The dam of Lewis’ Mass Of Copper was Brown Martin by High Score, a Thoroughbred by Mackenzie by Verwood. Brown Martin’s dam was a mare listed as
a Leonard Milligan by Mr Whiskline by Whiskaway by Whiskbroom by Broomstick by Ben Brush.
The dam of Jolly Copper was Jolly Popper by Waggoner’s Snip by Waggoner by Midnight by Badger by Peter McCue. The dam of Waggoner’s Snip was FL Gray Baker, a granddaughter of Harmon Baker by Peter McCue. The dam of Jolly Popper was Jolly Jo Ann by Jolly Joe Hancock by Roan Hancock by Joe Hancock by John Wilkins by Peter McCue. The dam of Jolly Joe Hancock was a mare by Red Buck
by Red Buck by Buck Thomas by Peter McCue. This gives Jolly Popper a breeding pattern of 5x5x6x6 to Peter McCue. Old Billy was the great great grandsire of Peter McCue in the sire line.
