Breaking New Ground made his first-ever start at the 1,000-yard distance a winning one, as the 4-year-old One Dashing Eagle gelding was a
prompt 4-5 favorite in the $20,000 Bobby Dan Crenshaw Memorial Stakes for Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds at Ruidoso Downs on Aug. 2.
Ridden by Alfredo Juarez Jr., Breaking New Ground defeated Shangroyal TB by 1 3/4-lengths in :51.969, for a 105 speed index. Todd Fincher prepped Breaking New Ground for owner R H Resources.
Breaking New Ground was stretching out in distance off of his 4 1/2-length victory in an 870- yard allowance-optional claiming ($15,000) race at Ruidoso on June 27.
The gelding was bred by Ray Herring out of multiple graded stakes winner Heavenly Trip. She has produced 100% money earners from five starters, including stakes winner and top earner Papaws Paint. Breaking New Ground is her second stakes winner.
Campaigned exclusively in New Mexico, Breaking New Ground has won five of 22 starts, and the $12,000 winner’s share of the purse from his first stakes win increased his earnings to $177,894. His resume includes a third-place finish in last year’s 440- yard $185,505 Hobbs America Derby-G3 at Zia Park.
Breaking New Ground was one of three Quarter Horses in the eight-horse field. Runner-up Shangroyal TB (Shanghai Bobby-Mama Tia) banked $4,000
for owner Dick Nichols. Luis A. Fuentes rode the Kentucky-bred 5-year-old stallion for trainer Cliff Lambert. San Giorgio TB (Girolamo-Pajama Bottom) ran third for owner James E. Crotts. Francisco Amparan rode the gelding for trainer Guadalupe Munoz Jr. Followed by Magical Jesse (Jesse James Jr-Oriana’s Magic), Midevil Hero TB (Everyday Heroes-Return The Gold), True Valor (Valiant Hero-Suzy Cartel), Risky Revenge TB (Laugh Track-Stormy Peg) and Iron Britches TB (Hold Me Back-Red Bottoms).

Jack Manning’s Flying Eagle 07 made the most
of his first start at the 550-yard distance, as the 4-year-old son of One Famous Eagle sprinted to a 3/4-length victory in the $20,000 Brigand Handicap at Ruidoso Downs on Aug. 9.
Ridden by Mario Delgado for trainer James Gonzales II, Flying Eagle 07 earned a 106 speed index while covering 550 yards in :26.640. The sorrel gelding earned $12,000 from his second career stakes win and first stakes score in more than two years.
Flying Eagle 07 has won three of 20 starts, including the 2018 West Texas Juvenile at Sunland Park, and he has earned $58,032.
“He was a solid two year old here, and then he had some problems when he turned three,” said Gonzales II. “We’ve really been working with him, and it seems like he’s coming around now that he’s four.”
Flying Eagle was bred by Quest Inc./Entrust/Fbo Tiffin out of Champion Tiny First Effort. The mare has produced 25 winners from 36 starters, including stakes winner and top earner Eagles Span. Flying Eagle 07 is her fourth stakes winner.
Ratatattat (Volcom-A Lil Known Fact) finished second and banked $4,000 for owners B.W. Duncan, Joe Duncan, and Valerie Duncan. Francisco Calderon rode the gelding for trainer Chris Zamora.
The 17-10 favorite in the 10-horse field, Why Buy The Cow (Heza Motor Scooter-Southwest Treasure) ran third under Benito Baca for owner Carrol A. Durbin and trainer Simon Buechler.
Bestest (One Famous Eagle-Cluster Of Stars) finished fourth and was followed by El Red (Dashing Vike-Fancy Easter Parade), Viva Le Rock (Rock Solid Jess-Viva Arriba), Trumpets Calling (Gonamakeyoureyesblue-Blazin Southern Gal), Tres Through Fire (Tres Seis-Dash Through Fire), First Moon Game (First Moonflash-Sissy Game), and EBW Gypsy (Desirio-EBW Obsession).

Lynnder 16 extended her win streak to three races with a wire-to-wire score in the $31,136 ARC Ruidoso Distaff Challenge at Ruidoso Downs on Aug. 15.
Saddled by Jason Olmstead for owners Tom Maher and Richard L. Tobin, Lynnder 16 went 400 yards in :19.810, and her margin of victory was a 1/2-length from maiden Graceisagoodreason. The 4-year-old daughter of World Champion Apollitical Jess earned the $14,634 winner’s share of the $31,136 purse and
a berth in the $100,000 ARC Distaff Challenge Championship-G1 at Albuquerque Downs on Oct. 24.
All told, Lynnder 16 has won 10 of 21 races, including four stakes, and she has banked $637,734. She began her career with a three-race win streak that included the 2018 Remington Park Futurity-RG2, and she was a finalist in that season’s All American Futurity-G1.
Lynnder 16 was bred in Oklahoma by Jim and Marilyn Helzer, and his owners purchased the mare for $31,000 at the 2017 Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale. Lynnder 16 is out of 2018 Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year Tinys Corona Queen. She has produced 14 winners from 16 starters. Lynnder 16 is her sixth stakes winner and top earner.
Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches’ Graceisagoodreason (Good Reason SA-Thrill And Grace) earned $6,227 in just her second career start. Ricky Ramirez rode the homebred sophomore filly for trainer Blane Wood.
Jess B Glory (Mr Jess Perry-Glory Rider) ran third under Jimmy Dean Brooks for owner Homer A. Hill and trainer Eddie D. Willis.
