FDD SWINGIN DYNASTY
by Danny Camp
Coming into the finals with the fifth fastest time, FDD Swingin Dynasty made the most of her chance by winning the $32,600 Wyoming
Downs & Renegade Sports Derby on Aug. 16.
The brown filly broke in second from the 8-post
under Oscar Cervantes. Making a late surge, they passed Ican Fix Adrink at the wire to win by a head. They completed the 400 yards in :19.619, posting a 102 speed index.
Trained by Alvaro Torres, the filly collected the $14,996 winner’s share of the purse for owner Darian Burt, which boosted her current bankroll to $37,696.
Raced in Wyoming, Utah, Texas and New Mexico, FDD Swingin Dynasty has won four races from nine outs, including the KVN Corona Derby earlier this year.
Jerry Windham bred FDD Swingin Dynasty out of winner Jess A Swingin, who was a runner up in the TQHA Sires’ Cup Futurity-RG2. FDD Swingin Dynasty is her first starter.
Ican Fix Adrink (Kiddy Up-Queenly Walk) and Jesus Valenzuela showed class with a second place finish for owner Omar Gradarrama and trainer Lin Melton. The gelding finished third in the Jimenez Tile/GM Racing Stakes last year.
Fastest qualifier Steppen Mr Perry (Tell Him Twice-Merry Perry) overcame a generic break to fin- ish third under Uriel Dominguez for owner/trainer by Jerry Allen. The gelding was a finalist in the KVN Corona Derby earlier this year.

KC Carden WYO Bred Derby
BRASH AND SASSY
by Michael Compton
Brash And Sassy ran her winning streak to three and notched the initial stakes victory of her career with a game score in the $33,050 KC Carden
Wyoming Bred Derby at Wyoming Downs on Aug. 1. The second-fastest qualifier for the 350-yard
event after a victory in her July 18 trial, Brash And Sassy was sent off as the race favorite in the finals. She justified that favoritism, leading start to finish. With Jesus Valenzuela in the irons for owner Dustin Stanger and trainer Riley Moosman, Brash And Sassy fled the gate in good order and grabbed the lead at the start. She was never headed and held a late surge from A Lucky Thunder Cat at bay to prevail
by a neck. The first-time stakes winner stopped the timer in :17.603, earning a 96 speed index.
Undefeated as a 3-year-old in 2020, Brash And Sassy is perfect in her three starts this season. Her over- all record stands at 9-5(1)-2-0. The $15,203 winner’s share of the purse increased her earnings to $27,743.
Dan and Patricia Baker bred Brash And Sassy out of lightly raced LP Sure And Proud. The mare has produced two winners from three starters. Brash And Sassy is her first stakes winner.
Jockey Carlos Guillen Chacon piloted runner-up A Lucky Thunder Cat (Red Storm Cat-Lucky TR) for owner Aron Saenz and trainer Diana Garfias.
Oscar Cervantes was aboard third-place finisher Eyesa Special Snoopi (Eyesa Special Slim-Lil Charolette Swirl) for owner Broken Bones Cattle Company and trainer Jesse Villegas.
One Toole Man (One Handsome Man-Jos Jody O Toole), Jess Frilly (Adashofjess-Silver Frills), Rays Lane (Conn Creek-A Dash Of Steffi), Version Star (Winners Version-Diva Star TB), Jessrockinjowagon (CD Rockin Da Wagon-Jess JC Jojo), Jessforthemoney (Four Six Jess-Clown About), and Steffies Dashn Moves (Maknmoves-Steffiesclassic Dash) followed.
Gillespie County Fair Derby
DYNASTY CARTEL
by Danny Camp
Dynasty Cartel secured his first stakes victory in the $76,800 Gillespie County Fair Derby on Aug. 23.
Dynasty Cartel won his Aug. 9 trial heat and came into the finals with the fifth fastest time. The gelding stepped away from the 6-post in the finals with a win on his mind. Jockey Victor Urieta Sr. was eyeballing the number one horse with his son on board. Senior wasn’t about to be outdone. They crossed the line 3/4-length in front, stopping the clock in :17.331 to earn a 108 speed index.
Trained by Alonso Neri and owned by Martin Gonzalez-Sanchez, the gelding earned the first place check of $26,880, boosting his total bankroll to $75,521 and he now has a race record of 11-5(1)-2-2.
Flag Ranch bred Dynasty Cartel out of Dash For Cash Futurity-G1 and Manor Downs Futurity-G1 winner A Snowy Cartel. She has produced 100% money earners from 15 starters. Dynasty Cartel is her first stakes winner and top earner.
