WB STEVIE NIX
by Michael Compton
WB Stevie Nix acted up at the starting gate of the $18,500 G.C.F.A. Paint and Appaloosa Juvenile Stakes at the Gillespie County Fair on Aug. 9, but the antics did not slow down the gray filly. Despite a stumble after the start, she hit a winning note when it counted, surging clear from six rivals late to score the first stakes win of her career.
With Luis Vivanco riding for owner Wag Ranches and trainer Gary Jacobs, WB Stevie Nix recovered after stumbling and found herself in fourth position early. She quickly discovered her best stride near the top of the stretch and collared the leaders
in the lane. Once in front, she edged away from the field to score by a 1/2-length. Sent off as the race favorite, WB Stevie Nix stopped the timer in :17.626.
The $11,100 winner’s share of the purse increased her earnings to $27,256 and with the win, her record now stands at 6-2(1)-0-0. Wag Ranches bred WB Stevie Nix out of stakes winner Zoomin Moon. She has produced 100% winners from two starters.
Heza Wicked Man ApHC (Appsolutely Wicked- Sheza Fast Dancer) finished second after hopping at the start and leading much of the trip under Eliazar Vera. The gray colt is still in search of his initial win, but has hit the board in all three career starts for owner Hugo Alberto Fax and trainer Dimas Sanchez.
Jockey Alejandro Zuniga piloted third-place finisher Flashem Wally O APHA (SF Royal Quick Flash-Quick Caydee). The sorrel gelding, con- ditioned by Janessa Muniz, pressed the leaders throughout and held on gamely for the show spot in the colors of Painted Faith Racing.
Seaborn Tate APHA (Second Painted Sign QH-Bye Bye Jenny), VP Deo Gratias APHA (Dos Poruno-Laus Deo), VP Special Royal Okie APHA (Special Royal Corona QH-Okie Dokie Annie) and VP Dashy Beduino APHA (VP Slick Winner- Intrinsic Danger) completed the order of finish.
