Expo Square Stakes
MIXED FANTASY
by John Moorehouse
Mixed Fantasy dashed to his first victory of the 2015 campaign, executing a driving finish to secure winner’s honors in the $15,727 Expo Square
Stakes on June 20 at Fair Meadows. Owned by JK Running Horses LLC, Mixed Fantasy collected
his 11th victory in 29 lifetime outs in winning the event. The five-year-old gelding now holds four wins in stakes company, including the Covered Bridges Stakes-G3 (twice) and the SLM Big Daddy Stakes.
Kenny Laymon trains Mixed Fantasy, who was given the second call at the start after making a strong break from the 7-gate.
Mixed Fantasy quickly took the lead, but battled Painted Josy the rest of the way to the wire. Mixed Fantasy led by a 1/2-length at the first call, then yielded a head advantage to Painted Josy as the duo entered the stretch.
Jockey Mario Delgado urged Mixed Fantasy back to the front as the pair neared the finish line. They reached the wire first by a full length.
Mixed Fantasy covered the 870-yards in :45.312, tallying a 103 speed index and bringing home an $8,784 payday. That winner’s share increased his lifetime earnings to $166,194.
Of Mixed Fantasy’s 11 career wins, six of those have come at the 870-yard distance, including three of his stakes victories.
Carl and Luanne Humphries bred Mixed Fantasy out of Mixin Sixin, a lightly-raced 1998 mare whom they also own.
Mixin Sixin has produced three starters among nine offspring. Mixed Fantasy is the most accom- plished of the brood, and the gelding is the only stakes winner.
Painted Josy (PYC Paint Your Wagon-She’s Josy TB) took second by 5-lengths under G. R. Carter Jr. for George Carter & trainer Ty Blackwell. Painted Josy won the AQHA Remington Distance Challenge last month.
I Beat The Feet (Beat The Feet TB-Bessie Princess), who has been in the money in multiple stakes, was third under Edgar Martinez for Snowball Racing & trainer Ron David.
Followed by Arbeka Raincloud (Voghts Gold-Arbeka Bee Quick), Furyinmypants (Furyofthewind-Princess Phoebe), Also A Feature (Feature Mr Jess-Also A High), Saritas Blueboy
(Jess Louisiana Blue-Sarita Rose), SRD Bobwirebob (Coronas Prospect-Shouldabeenjoebob TB) and Blue Efforts (Jess Louisiana Blue-Efforts Star). Chase This Chic scratched.
Fair Meadows Juvenile
BURNIN FOR YOU
by John Moorehouse
Burnin For You only has two outs on her record but she already has black type, making an impres- sive run to victory in the $17,500 Fair Meadows
Juvenile on June 20 at the Oklahoma track. Chris Watson owns the filly, who broke her
maiden and tallied her first win in stakes company simultaneously. Donnie Strickland trans Burnin For You, who brought home a $10,392 payday for her victory that swelled her lifetime bankroll to $13,743.
Jockey Jesus Salazar was aboard for a sharp 350- yard trip. Burnin For You made a quick break from the 2-hole, led by a head at the first call, then widened the gap to a 1/2-length margin entering the stretch. That was enough to help Burnin For You hold off a rally by Teves and reach the wire first by a neck.
The stakes-winning trip took :18.047 to com- plete for Burnin For You who, of the five horses who actually competed, was the biggest longshot in the field at nearly 7-1 odds. Burnin For You was coming off a third-place finish in her debut out, a 250-yard maiden held May 7 at Remington Park.
Gene Cox bred Burnin For You, the first stakes winner out of Bye Bye Rayburn. A stakes-placed com- petitor herself, Bye Bye Rayburn is a 2006 mare with three foals, two of whom have made starts to date.
Teves (The Louisiana Cartel-Midnight Swingin) was the betting favorite coming off a maiden win
at Remington Park on May 16, but settled for the runner-up honors. Larry Sherwood is the owner
and Kevin Willis the trainer. Cody Smith drew the riding assignment. Tomm Boy (Wave Carver-Makin It Stormy) placed third for Gregg Sanders, who does double duty as owner and trainer. Tony Bennett was aboard for the ride.
Senator Tamale (Louisiana Senator-Real Hot Tamale) and Bos Folly (Bodacious Dash-Seperate Folly) completed the field. Arolla The Dice & Ashleys Freighttrain both scratched.
Belles Stakes
SHELBY C
By Danny Camp
It’s been about a year since Shelby C visited the winners circle, but she seems to be back on track with a win in the $17,150 Belles Stakes at Tulsa Fair Meadows on June 27. Last year, Shelby C had a streak winning 3 of 4, but
it’s been a long dry spell up until now. Trainer Salimm Hernandez must have sensed that Shelby C was at the top of her game, and he stepped her up from the claim- ing ranks. He was rewarded with a first place check.
The assistant starter had a little trouble getting her straight in the 6-hole, but when the gates cracked open she stepped away on the lead. Rider Mario Delgado tapped his mount on the shoulder a few times as the wire neared. His encouragement was
all she needed and she was never headed, finishing the 350-yard contest in :17.520 for a 92 speed index. Shelby C walked away a first time stakes winner with a $10,230 check, taking her total earnings to $55,251. Her race record now stands at 4 wins from 14 tries.
Shelby C is owned by Fernanda Avalos and was bred in Oklahoma by Newcomb Cattle Co. out of Makin Me Money. The mare is a winner on the track and she has produced two money earners from three starters. Shelby C is her first stakes winner.
Kuhl Wave (Wave Carver-Shazooms Doll) ran with the leaders till the halfway point and then dropped back a length. Under a hand ride all the way from Daniel Torres, she made up a length in just three strides to get second for owner/trainer Miguel C Banuelos. The photo showed Just Eagle (One Famous Eagle-Debs Cartel) in 3rd for owner Garrett Baker and trainer Donnie Strickland. Jesus Salazar had the riding assign- ment. Followed by Love Me Madly (Fdd Dynasty-First Black Rose), Dazzlin Effort (Jumpn-Special Dazz),
B Mighty Speedy (Tempting Dash-Jess Charming), Daltsguninforsuccess (Cartel Success-Dalts Pistol), Levian (First Prize Perry-Game Snowlady), Vw Lucky Advice (Best Advice-Oh Just Lucky) & Icebluewave (Wave Carver-Corona With Ice).
