Dutch Masters III Futurity
ISTOLIT
by Danny Camp
Stealing is illegal. But, an exception was made at the Jerome County Fair on June 21 when Istolit stole the first place money in the $15,200 Dutch Masters III Futurity.
Istolit was 2nd in his June 7 trial. He took the early lead, but was out-finished & ended 1/2-length behind fastest qualifier La Karmela for the 2nd-fastest qualify- ing time. In the finals, however, things went more to his liking. Istolit, owned by Movin On & trained by Guy Weeks, left the 2-hole on the lead. Jockey Eddie Aceves, who knew Istolit had a history of erratic running, impressed the importance of getting to the wire first. Istolit responded. He was in 2nd at the first call. Then the gelding poured it on & took the lead once again, finishing strong & crossing the wire 1/2-length in front.
Istolit stopped the clock at :18.111 for the 350-yards, earning a career-high 90 speed index. The $6,080 win- ner’s share takes his earnings to $6,555. The gelding has now won his 1st of 3 starts, and this marks his 1st stakes win. He actually finished on top in his maiden out at Pocatello Downs, but was disqualified to last.
Istolit was bred by Garlyn O. Shelton in Texas. The gelding is out of Eye B Quick Chick, who fin- ished 5th in a pair of Grade 3 stakes events and ended her race career with nearly $16,000 banked. The mare has produced two starters, both winners and ROM earners. Istolit is her first stakes winner and top earner.
La Karmela (Never Tell-Jd Out Dat Sock) was close throughout & made up ground to finish 2nd under Oscar Cervantes for CMH Welding LLC & trainer Gerrall Cunningham.
Early leader La Puchaut (Never Tell-Dh Misty Effort) was 3rd under Eric Ayala for owners Vicente Treyes & Uriel L. Arreola and trainer L. Arreola.
Followed by Silent Prowler (Never Tell-Prowless), Race My Tell (Never Tell-Race To Riches) & Swiper B Sonic (Hawkinson-Yr Brown Lucy). Axle Boy & L A Lite My Fire were scratched.

RGR FIRST TO FIRE
by John Moorehouse
RGR First To Fire was first to the finish line in the $34,251 UQHRA Ed Giles Futurity on June 6 at Laurel Brown Racetrack. Home-bred by David and
Ross Hinkins, the young gelding notched his second win in four career starts.
RGR First To Fire also won his futurity trial, albeit with a time of :18.092 that placed him eighth on the qualifying ladder. The gelding showed more speed when it mattered most, covering the same 350 yards in the Futurity in :17.765.
Alvaro Torres is the trainer of RGR First To Fire, who had jockey Abel Ramirez in the irons. The geld- ing brought home an $11,988 payday for his owners for his stakes victory, which increased the horse’s lifetime bankroll to $14,006.
RGR First To Fire, who also qualified for the South Valley Futurity in May, is the first stakes win- ner out of his dam, Heart To Fire. Also owned by the Hinkins, Heart To Fire is a lightly-raced 1998 mare who logged a single victory in five career starts. As
a broodmare, she has produced four starters to date among eight offspring. Two of the other horses in the brood are stakes-placed.
Mighty Fline (Mighty Invictus-Fly Scraper) secured 2nd place for owner/breeder Dale Winterton. Trained by Chancey Spencer, the filly had jockey Tyson Lusk aboard. Tat Team USA (Separatist-Wild Tat Too), the fastest qualifier,
took 3rd place. The filly is owned by Sixto Garcia and trained by Jesus Durante. Jose Guzman drew the riding assignment. Followed by RGR Secret Illusion (First Down Illusion-Jungle Raised), First Prize Desi (First Prize Stone-GW Desi Lou), Alma The Younger (Atilla’s Storm TB-JC A Specialspirit), They Call Me Bear (Cartella Star-Short Road), Lanes Leader (Chase This Leader-Rare Lan) & Stone Quick Shot (First Prize Stone-Benchmark Quick Shot). Born Runner Classic
WH DESIGN BY DASH
by John Moorehouse
Air Born Leader may have won the previous 4 versions of the Born Runner Classic, but WH Design By Dash beat the streak on June 13. The 4-year-old gelding made an impressive run to victory in the $83,900 competition, logging his 1st stakes win and reaching the winner’s circle for the 7th time in 19 starts. Owned by Julia Rae Martin, WH Design By Dash already had black type thanks to 5 in-the-money finishes in stakes races, all during his 2-year-old season.
Starting from the outside post in a 10-horse field, WH Design By Dash charged out to a 1-length lead by the first call. He widened the gap to 1 1/2-lengths entering the stretch and won by that same margin.
Trainer Paul Martin prepped WH Design By Dash, who covered the 400 yards in :20.017 for a 94 speed index. Jockey Victor Olivo, who is 2nd on the list of all- time wins at Indiana Grand, was aboard. “He got hurt a couple of weeks ago, and we were worried he wouldn’t perform as well, but he broke sharp and took the lead and never looked back,” Olivo said after the race.
Bred by Greg Morrison, the win produced a $46,145 payday for WH Design By Dash to improve his lifetime earnings to $162,698. The gelding becomes the 2nd stakes winner out of Fast Mans Dash, dam of 7 starters. Her other stakes winner is WH Johnnie Boy Red, winner of the 2012 Jaguar Rocket Stakes.
Chilled Six Pack (Chilled Corona-Six Packin Robin) was 2nd under Shanley Jackson for Dula Racing LLC & trainer Matt Frazier. Its Chilly (Chilled Corona-Lucks Got It) took 3rd under Giovani Vazquez- Gomez for owner/trainer Randy Smith.
