KR CRUSIN CARTEL
by Michael Cusortelli
Fastest qualifier KR Crusin Cartel kept her perfect record intact following a 1-length victory in the 300-yard $52,507 Alberta Bred Futurity-RG3 at the
Rocky Mountain Turf Club in Lethbridge, Ontario, Canada, on June 21.
Racing for Kyler Racing LLC of Cascade, Montana, and trained by Laurie Ferguson, KR Crusin Cartel stopped the timer in :15.729 and earned a 93 speed index under jockey Trevor Simpson. The $23,336 winner’s share of the purse pushed the homebred gray filly’s bankroll to $41,271.
KR Crusin Cartel was coming off of a 3/4-length victory in the fourth of five Alberta Bred Futurity trials on June 7. Her :15.740 clocking earned her the fastest qualifying position.
A winner of all four of her outs, KR Crusin Cartel began her career in Arizona where, as the fourth-fastest qualifier, she scored her first stakes victory in the 350-yard $31,680 John Deere Turf Paradise Juvenile Challenge on April 26.
KR Crusin Cartel is one of two winners pro- duced by KR American Girl. Racing in ’09, the mare earned $46,334 from five outs, and her two wins included a head victory in the 400-yard $95,516 Canada Cup Futurity-RG3.
Kiddys Down (Kiddy Up-Lets Get Going) finished second for owner Brian Weatherill. Juan Gonzalez rode the sorrel filly for trainer Allen Goodsell. Glenn K. Wills’ Northfork Sizzle (Sizzlin Red Corona-RJ Bitterroot Babe) ran third, 1
1/4 lengths behind the winner. Andrew Wright piloted the maiden filly for trainer George Scott. Completing the order of finish were Fiscal Fast (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Tres Seis Smooches) Flybye 109 (Special Fly Bye-Eyes Double Quick), First Prize Sass (First Timber-Sass N Dass), CR Fireball (Volcom- Long Gone Jenna Jean), and Sheaintawhiskylulaby (Sizzlin Red Corona-Cleats Rockette).
NDQHRA Futurity
JUMPN FOOL
by John Moorehouse
Make it two races, and two wins, for Jumpn Fool. The colt added black type to his record on June 21, going wire-to-wire in the $20,325
NDQHRA Futurity held at Chippewa Downs. Jumpn Fool is owned by Frank Gladue, and he’s
brought home $9,146 in prize money during his brief two-race career to date.
The sorrel colt also won his June 7 futurity trial in similar wire-to-wire fashion, covering the 300 yard distance in :16.660 and posting the fastest qualifying time.
Jockey Donovan Azuee led Jumpn Fool on an impressive run to victory in the NDQHRA Futurity finals. The young colt broke on top from the inside starting gate, building a 1-length lead by the time he entered the stretch. That advantage was enough separation for Jumpn Fool to hold off a late rally by Royal Cash Cat. Jumpn Fool dueled with that one and made it to the finish line first by a neck.
Trained by Jim Fleming, Jumpn Fool finished the futurity in :17.020. The colt was the favorite at the betting window, going off at almost even-money odds at post time.
Charles Soiseth bred Jumpn Fool out of Sheecha Girl, a 1997 mare whom Soiseth home-bred. Sheecha Girl is stakes-placed with three in-the-money fin- ishes. She’s produced six offspring, including three starters, but Jumpn Fool is the first in the brood to win a stakes race.
In what marked her third start in a span of three weeks, Royal Cash Cat (Free Company-Dashing Ten) finished second for owner Steve Leonard and trainer Russell Wilson. Terry Bennett was aboard for the ride. Royal Cash Cat was the third fastest quali- fier to the event after finishing second in her trial heat behind Jumpn Fool.
Fleming also trains Tinys First Affair (Tiny First Feature-Little Love Affair), who hit the board in third place. Karen Glasser owns the gelding and Shaun Herman had the riding assignment. Tinys First Affair won his trial heat and was the second- fastest qualifier.
Sunday Companion finished fourth but was disqualified and placed eighth for interference.
The official remaining order of finish was
Bet Me Im Back (Such Easy Cash-Southern Silk Coat), Winning Script (Free Company-Winners Script), Maximus Royal Sky (Maximus Royal-Six Wranglers), Maximus Speed (Maximus Royal-Little Free Speed) and Sunday Companion (Snips Rock N Bud-Adandy Companion).
NDQHRA Derby
SS DYNASTY
by John Moorehouse
SS Dynasty logged the quickest qualifying time for the NDQHRA Derby during the June 7 tri- als, winning his heat by a head.
Then, the sorrel gelding went out and won the stakes final in decisive manner, scoring a 2-length victory in the $18,325 event held June 21 at Chippewa Downs.
Jockey Francisco Estrada, who also rode him in the trials, brought SS Dynasty out of the 4-gate in the middle of the pack.
SS Dynasty was running in fourth place both
at the first call and entering the stretch. Then, the gelding made a huge finish, overtaking the horses in front of him and winning by daylight.
SS Dynasty now holds three wins in eight career starts, with two of those triumphs coming back-to-back.
Billy Buchholz owns the gelding, and collected an $8,246 payday for the derby that essentially tripled the career earnings of SS Dynasty, which now stand at $12,394.
Also trained by Buchholz, SS Dynasty won his trial and finished the 350 yards in :18.650 to top the qualifying ladder.
He wasn’t quite as fast in the derby itself, com- pleting the race in :18.950, but that was more than enough to win the race.
SS Dynasty becomes the first stakes winner out of his dam, Shakem Sis, a 2005 mare who is stakes-placed herself by virtue of finishing third in the 2007 running of the Northern Plains Futurity. Shakem Sis has five offspring, two of whom have made starts thus far.
David Wisdom bred SS Dynasty and home-bred Shakem Sis.
Miss Pappadeuce (Pappasito-The Deuces Wild) was the pre-race betting favorite, but she finished second for owner Jesse Morin, who also trains the filly. Miss Pappadeuce remains winless through four career starts. Jockey Marcus Delorme drew the rid- ing assignment.
Shesa Easy Victory (Such Easy Cash-Jetaway To Victory) put forth a big effort and hit the board in third place for owner John Bubel and trainer Terry Davis. Jeramie Fennell was aboard.
The remaining order of finish was No Such Tellin (Such Easy Cash-No Tellin Darlin), Jazzin Chick (Bono Jazz-Sapientia), Jess A Gamble (Four Six Jess-Boot Scoot And Boogy), Dashin Silk Coat (Such Easy Cash-Southern Silk Coat) and Rockin Jill (Four Six Jess-Rockin Copy).
