SAN LORENZO CORONA
by Michael Compton
San Lorenzo Corona, a two-time graded stakes winner last year, returned this year in styling fashion at age five to annex first the Open Me A Coronoa Stakes-G2 and then the $60,000 Vals Fortune Stakes at Delta Downs on June 7.
Ridden by jockey Victor Urieta Jr., San Lorenzo Corona broke alertly in the 400-yard Vals Fortune Stakes and dueled through the lane. Prominent throughout, San Lorenzo Corona turned back all challengers to win by 1/2-length at the wire. He stopped the timer in :19.592 for a 95 speed index. Trained by Josue Ponce and owned by Rogelio Marquez Jr., San Lorenzo Corona is now a winner in seven of 15 starts. The $36,000 winner’s share of the purse increased his career bankroll to $194,889. Rip Tide made it back-to-back victories at Delta Downs after shipping in from Los Alamitos in California, and registered his initial stakes win with
a clear score in the $20,450 Par-A-Dice Stakes at Delta Downs on June 22.
Trained by Lanny Keith and with Everardo Rodriguez aboard for the second straight race, Rip Tide broke from the 8-gate and raced in third posi- tion early in the 330-yard fixture. The six-year-old gray horse collared early leader Jets Fast Dash in the lane and rallied impressively to score by 1/2-length.

in all four outings at that length. All told, he is now a winner in six of 19 starts and has placed in nine others.
The $12,000 winner’s share of the purse increased Rip Tide’s bankroll to $118,283.

Higheasterjet Handicap-G2
RARIN
by Tracy Gantz
Rarin didn’t exactly run straight in the $50,000 Higheasterjet Handicap-G2 at Ruidoso Downs on June 29, but he managed to get the job done anyway. Drawn outside in the nine-horse field and ridden
by Martin Feliz, Rarin broke on top. He was clear of his rivals when he started lugging in. Felix straightened out the 7-year-old gelding, who continued to pull away and win by 1 1/4-lengths in :17.326 for 350 yards.
Olaya Munoz Duarte owns Rarin, and Rodolfo Valles trains him. Rarin was coming off consecutive wins in the James Isaac Hobbs Stakes-G3 at Zia Park and the La Plata Stakes at SunRay Park. He also won the 2018 Mighty Deck Three Stakes-G3.
Kathleen O. Matey bred Rarin in Oklahoma from her homebred Rare Kayoh, winner of the 2007 Colors of the Wind Handicap. She has produced 100% money earners from five starters, including 3-time stakes win- ner Pyro. Rarin is the third stakes winner in the brood.
Jorge Luis Hernandez owns and trains second- place Medessy (Mr Jess Perry-Medea). Alan Hernandez rode the 4-year-old colt, who was com- ing off a win in an allowance-optional claimer at Remington Park.
