                                Rocky Mountain Derby
JESS UN SIES MAS
by Tracy Gantz
The mare Seis Star Glitter had a great afternoon at Arapahoe Park in Colorado June 15 without even being there. Two of her offspring won stakes: First, Shinning Bianca took the Dolls Prodigy Stakes, and then Jess Un Sies Mas scored in the $71,015 Rocky Mountain Derby.
Jess Un Sies Mas qualified the fastest for the 350-yard Derby, though bettors sent Tyson Gay, the second-fastest qualifier, away as the even-money favorite. Jess Un Sies Mas, at 6-1, broke on top and was never threatened. He traveled an erratic path, but still scampered to a 2-length victory in :17.600 with Jose Lopez in the irons.
Jose Barron trains Jess Un Sies Mas for owner Hugo Barron Sierra, who bred Jess Un Sies Mas in Colorado. The gelding has now won three of his eight starts.
Seis Star Glitter, a multiple graded stakes-placed runner, has produced a total of four winners in
six starters. In addition to Jess Un Sies Mas and Shinning Bianca, those include 2016 Dolls Prodigy winner Shurnuf Shimmer.
Hipolito Michel-Valverde trains second-place Could Be Hotter (Walk Thru Fire-Look Her Over) and third-place Midnite Dash (Bodacious Dash-DG Sumit). Roberto Valero rode two-time winner Could Be Hotter for owner Juniors Quarter Horses. Edwuin Lujan piloted Midnite Dash for owners Pedro and Lilia Andazola. Midnite Dash ran second in the 2018 Mile High Futurity.
Tyson Gay (Foose-Hawk Kue Pie) finished fourth, and Ryans Cartel (Carters Cartel-Enticilizeur) and Despite (Apollitical Jess-Daring Diversion) dead- heated for fifth. They were followed by Long Wagon Ho (PYC Paint Your Wagon-The Long Straw), Craizin (Corona Cartel-Jessican Ravin), Aint She Kool (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Purdy Kool) and One Rare Jess (One Sweet Jess-Eyes Especially Rare).
Dolls Prodigy Stakes
SHINNING BIANCA
by Tracy Gantz
Shinning Bianca didn’t let a stumble early in the $17,950 Dolls Prodigy Stakes at Arapahoe Park on June 15 deter her from victory.
She powered through, passing rivals, to win by a head as the 10-1 fifth choice in the six-horse field. Shinning Bianca stopped the timer in :17.640 for 350 yards.
The $10,770 winner’s share of the purse boosted her total lifetime earnings to $41,029.
Jose Barron trains Shinning Bianca for owner Hugo Barron Sierra, who bred the 4-year-old filly in Colorado. Shinning Bianca earlier finished second in the 2017 Cherry Creek Futurity at Arapahoe. Eight of her 11 starts have come at the Colorado track, including all three of her victories.
Barron Sierra bred Shinning Bianca by crossing his homebred Tres Seis mare Seis Star Glitter with the stallion One Handsome Man. The mare, a two- time winner, is a multiple graded stakes-placed run- ner. Three races after the Dolls Prodigy at Arapahoe, Seis Star Glitter was represented by Jess Un Sies Mas, who won the Rocky Mountain Derby and is by Apollitical Jess. Seis Star Glitter has produced a total of four winners in six starters, including Shurnuf Shimmer, who captured the 2016 Dolls Prodigy.
Edwuin Lujan rode DG Tempter (Tempting Dash-DG Miss Daisy) to second for owners Pedro & Lilia Andazola and trainer Hipolito Michel- Valverde. DG Tempter ran third in last year’s Rocky Mountain Derby.
Roberto Gomez owns and trains third-place Perkin Desire (Desirio-Fols Perky Cat), who was ridden by Jhaciel Soto. Perkin Desire won last year’s Dolls Prodigy as well as the Leo Beau Dash Stakes.
Completing the field were Toshi Yoshi (Pool- Mairis Money Maker), Shes My Foose (Foose-Baby La Jolla) and Sweet N Sour Bars (Rebs Miracle-Sweet Lindsey Lu). SK Duck Dynasty was scratched.
American Flyer Stakes
DEE FAVORITE GIRL
by Tracy Gantz
Thunderstorms forced the postponement of the $18,300 American Flyer Stakes at Arapahoe Park in Colorado from its original date of June 1 to June 9. Dee Favorite Girl wasn’t in the first set of entries, but she came along the following week to win the race.
With jockey Alfredo Triana Jr. riding, Dee Favorite Girl went off as the 8-5 favorite. She broke in second from the two-hole, quickly took the lead, and scored by 1 1/2-lengths despite drifting out. Dee Favorite Girl completed the 350 yards in a hand timed :17.410, posting a 97 speed index.
Miguel Pena trains Dee Favorite Girl for owner Santos Lopez. The 4-year-old filly has won all over the Western U.S., including at Remington Park in Oklahoma and at Sunland Park in New Mexico.
Dee and Betty Raper bred Dee Favorite Girl
out of lightly raced Eyema Blues Girl. The mare has produced six winners in seven starters. Dee Favorite Girl is her first stakes winner. Her second dam, Run The Dash, was the 2007 Broodmare of the Year and also produced World Champion Blues Girl Too.
Jonathan Dominguez rode Cartels High (Favorite Cartel-Pretty Jet High) to second for owner Jan Properties Management LLC and trainer Deborah Boyd. Cartels High broke his maiden at Prairie Meadows last year.
BV King George (Freighttrain B-Ms Tres
Seis) finished third with Jesus Olivas in the irons. Hipolito Michel-Valverde trains the 5-year-old geld- ing for owners Pedro and Lilia Andazola. A two-time winner, BV King George had previously placed in 10 other races.
Completing the field were Paint Your Eagle (One Dashing Eagle-Paint Your Beau), Wonce In A Blue Moon (First Moonflash-Wonwabbitwon), Jettin Ben (Easy Winning Jet-Nikita Ben) and Bargain Boy (Kiddy Up-Little Stormer). Apollitical Rebel was scratched.
