Golden Driller Stakes
BLUEMOONTELLER
by John Moorehouse
Bluemoonteller out-sprinted Lota PYC Chrome to tally his first stakes victory, winning the $16,000 Golden Driller Stakes at Fair Meadows on June 16. Breaking from the 3-post, Bluemoonteller
grabbed a 1/2-length lead by the time he reached the first call, and led by 1-length entering the stretch. Lota PYC Chrome came on strong during the final stretch, but Bluemoonteller held off his bid and reached the wire first by a neck. Mario Delgado rode the gelding, who finished his 350-yard trip
on a sloppy, sealed track in :17.358, generating a 103 speed index in the first-ever stakes out for Bluemoonteller.
It’s the fifth career win in 16 starts for the four-year-old gelding, who is owned by Three Bar
T Quarter Horses and trained by R.L. Robinson. The $8,784 winner’s share of the purse increased his lifetime bankroll to $46,574.
Billy Kothmann bred Bluemoonteller out of winner Blue Moon Bye Bye. She has produced two winners from six starters, including stakes finalist Heza Jet Set. Bluemoonteller is her first stakes win- ner and top earner.
Lota PYC Chrome (Lota PYC-Miss Desert Chrome) finished second under Cody Smith for owner/trainer Diego Meza.
Hooked On A Win (PYC Paint Your Wagon- Pretty Girl Kate), who won last year’s running of this event, finished in third for owner Regina Laymon and trainer Kenny Laymon. Daniel Torres was in
the irons.
Luv My Bully (Johns Eye Opener-Ms Bully On The Dash), Fly N Tell (Coronado Cartel-Strawfly Sister), HTR Miamor Tequilla (Heart Of The Cartel-Sheila Tequila), Express Train No 9 (Freighttrain B-Wildfire Express Two), Jesse Joe (Coronas Prospect-Jessie My Girl) and Jesstell Cartel (Teller Cartel-Jess Imagine) completed the field. Home Boy James scratched.
Expo Square Stakes
FDS OF SEATTLE
by John Moorehouse
On June 22 at Fair Meadows, FDS Of Seattle proved that age is nothing but a number. The oldest competitor in the field for the Expo Square
Stakes, the nine-year-old gelding surpassed all com- petitors to win the $15,150 contest by daylight.
In this race, he broke on top from the two-gate, setting the early pace and leading by a 1/2-length
as he reached the first call. FDS Of Seattle drew off from there. He was never headed, sporting a 2-length lead going into the stretch and coasting to the finish line with a very comfortable 2 1/4-length margin.
A Gary Walker trainee, FDS Of Seattle had Curtis Kimes in the irons. They finished the 870- yard trip in :45.325, registering a 103 speed index despite the presence of an 18 mph headwind. The $8,338 winner’s share of the purse pushed the geld- ing’s career bankroll into six figures at $107,760.
William A. Smith Jr. home-bred FDS Of Seattle, who picked up his 11th victory in his 39th career start, and his first-ever winning effort in stakes com- pany. The gelding was foaled in Georgia and made his competitive debut in January of 2013 at Hialeah Park. He was a finalist in the 2015 Will Rogers Distance Challenge. Smith bred FDS Of Seattle out of 6-time winner Talk Of Seattle TB.
Blazen Panther (Panther Mountain-Blazen Madie) and Daniel Torres secured second place by a neck for owner Jonathan Chavira and trainer Luz Chavira.
Petes Favorite (Pete’s Wonder TB-Jiggle It Around) finished third under Roberto Meraz Jr. for owners Cathy & Kirby Kile, who also trains the gelding.
The remaining order of finish saw post-time favorite Admiral Zoomwalt (Shazoom-Tellin It All) in fourth, followed by Rare Ed (Dean Miracle-Ms Corona Jet), Give It To Shaq (Afrashad TB-Brittany Dale), Sunnys Candyman (Cartels Candy Man- Change My Halo) and Gold Rockin Regent (FDD Dynasty-Rockin Regent).
Fair Meadows Juvenile
MOXXY
by John Moorehouse
After a close call in stakes company earlier this summer, Moxxy showed plenty of moxie in running to her first-ever stakes victory, winning the $17,500 Fair Meadows Juvenile on June 22.
Benny Landeros was in the irons for this stakes and brought Moxxy out of the 4-gate to take the
lead by a head as she reached the first call. Moxxy maintained that narrow advantage as she entered the stretch, where she executed a driving finish to reach the wire with a 1/2-length margin of victory. The 350-yard trip took :18.364, and she was running into an 18 mph headwind. She logged her second overall win in six career starts, and the $10,338 payday pushed her total earnings to $37,157.
Owned by Andrea Esqueda, Moxxy already had her black type, finishing third in the Easy Jet Stakes at Remington Park in her prior out.
Robert Esqueda bred Moxxy out of 5-time winner Strawfly Sister, who ran second in the 2008 Blink Of An Eye Handicap. She produced 100% money earners from six starters, including top earner Fly N Tell, winner of the 2018 Easy Jet Stakes. Moxxy is her second stakes winner.
DF Royal Tales (Wagon Tales-Royal Candy Cat) placed second under Robert Meraz Jr. for owner Jenaro Robles-Mejia and trainer Carlos Ruiz. Two horses, High Rate Of Desire and Clean Brew, finished in a dead heat for third place. Sammy Manek owns High Rate Of Desire (High Rate Of Return-Hi Ho Desirio), who is trained by Luz Chavira and had Mario Delgado aboard. Clean Brew (Corona Cartel-Theslateisclean)
is owned by Salvador Cervantes and trained by Pedro Hernandez-Pulido. Rolando Raudales did the riding. Followed by El Chapoteo (Splash Bac-Kiptys First Kiss), RJ What You Say (Coronado Cartel-Dolls In Fire), Rockets Return (High Rate Of Return-Teller Phoebe) and Latuda (Hes Relentless-Transaxle). MH Might B Leavin scratched.
