jess Fly With Me ran only twice as a 2-year- old with limited success, but has blossomed as a 3-year-old, winning his first stakes race in the $147,300 Retama Park Derby on July 28. Eusevio Huitron took over the training duties on Jess Fly With Me between the colt’s 2- and 3-year-old years, and tried him for the first time in 2012 at Louisiana Downs on Feb. 18. The Fly Jess Fly son
responded with a 1 1/2-length maiden win. He was not so lucky in his next start, losing his jockey in a derby trial and ruining any chance at a return to the finals.
Jess Fly With Me got back on track on April 12, winning an allowance race before also taking a trial to the Old South Derby on May 2. In his first stakes appear- ance, he ran second in the Old South Derby.
Huitron pointed Jess Fly With Me at the Retama Park Derby, and the colt responded
with a fourth-place trial effort that still quali- fied him for the finals with the sixth-fastest
time. With regular rider Santos Carrizales in the saddle for the finals, Jess Fly With Me turned in a stunning stretch run to overtake favored leader Texasindependencegal and win the 400-yard race
by a nose. His winning time of :19.704 was worth $58,920 of the total purse for owner Antonio Carrizales.
Bred in Arkansas by John and Sylvia Crane, Jess Fly With Me is the first stakes winner
for his dam, The Meteroite, a stakes-placed winner of $24,026.
Texasindependencegal (Mr Ottyes-Lovely Legs) has now finished second in her last four starts for trainer Cindi Keeton. Leonard Lyle owns the filly, who was second in
the Heritage Place Derby-G1 earlier this year. As a 2-year-old, Texasindependencegal won
the TQHA Sale Futurity-RG2 and the Delta Downs Juvenile Challenge and was third in
the Dash For Cash Futurity-G1. Jockey Luis Vivanco was aboard for the Retama Park Derby.
Paint Me Quickid (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Rustys Quickid) crossed the wire third with Alfonso Lujan in the saddle for trainer Steve Kearl. Denis Winn owns the colt.
Rounding out the field were Wagon Empire (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Royalnative Empress), Disonecandash (First Down Dash-Da One), A Royal Treatment (Corona Caliente-Intent-TB), A Game Dame (First N Kool-Miss Game Tee), Lalia (Walk Thru Fire- Clays Knockout), Classic Wagon (PYC Paint Your Waong-Classic Bully), and Miss Lady Savona (Tres Seis-Lady Savona).

executive Tone scored his eighth win in his last 11 starts dating back to April 17, 2010, when he ran a perfect race to win the $35,000
TQHA Stakes on July 27, Texas Showcase Night, at Retama Park in San Antonio, Texas.
Owned by Filimon Saucedo, Executive Tone was third in the Gillespie County Fair Futurity-G3 as a juvenile, and broke her maiden at 3. The now 5-year-old mare has started 10 times since, win-
ning seven including the
Texas Twister Stakes Div. 2
on April 23, 2011. This year,
she was third in the Texas
Twister to start her season,
following that up with
an allowance win at Sam
Houston on May 19.
Trained by Juan Saucedo, Executive Tone didn’t return to the track for more than two months before reappear- ing in the TQHA Stakes.
With Luis Ramirez in the saddle, she loaded into post position four in the 10-horse field. Breaking on the lead, Executive Tone was never seriously challenged while going wire to wire to win by a neck.
Executive Tone’s winning time of :13.259 for 250 yards set a new track record at Retama Park. General E had set the old mark of :13.294 earlier in the month, on July 6.
Executive Tone earned $21,000 to raise her career earnings to $67,517. Sired by Executive Menace, the grey mare is the only stakes horse to represent her dam, Im Color Fast. Scarlett Hill Farms bred the mare.
Finishing second was Speedin Streak, trained by Steve Kearl for owners Betty and Lynn Bettinger Sr. Speedin Streak (Streakin Sixes- Cashin Memories) was third
in the 2011 Pfizer AQHA Starter Allowance Challenge. Rodrigo Vallejo was aboard the 5-year-old gelding in the TQHA Stakes.
Checking into third for owner Marina Nino was Texas Kool (First N Kool- Kalynna). Eleazar Hernandez rode the 4-year-old stallion for trainer Juan Saucedo. Texas Kool was second in the first division of the Texas Twister Stakes this past April at Sam Houston.
The top three were followed by Jakes Charming Jody (Jody O Toole-Charming Elan), Silver For Me (Corona For Me-Silver Poupon), Sarah Must (Jet Cartel-Go You Must), Speeding (Shazoom-Speedy Empress), Jump Down Azoom (Azoom-Jump Down First), Gettindowntobizness (Heza Fast Dash- Shaded In Grey) and Jessa Kool Perry (Mr Jess Perry-First Kool Baby).
