wanted the geldings,” Ken said about the mares in their program. “I heard stories about how they traded for mares and got them for next to nothing because the people wanted the geldings to rope on and rodeo with. They found that the good mares kept producing no matter the stud they were crossed on, and so we learned of the mare power.
“We have found through the years that our good mares have consistently crossed, and we now have mare lines that are several generations deep and they keep producing,” he continued. “So, we look for family in our breeding program.
“I will say we are a little different than some others that just look for that horse with run,” he added about what they look for in a prospective broodmare. “If we can’t also find in that family, and I am talking about good racing lines, horses that have the aptitude to either go to an AQHA show or the rodeo arena or just go do something, we won’t put those horses in our breeding program. We have found that Fab has crossed well and some of his biggest winners are out of mares that have met our criteria, and we have also put him on those kinds of mares through partnerships. We put a lot of effort on selecting mares because we believe in mare power.”
The sire record for Fab shows that the breeding program is working, with his foals earning well over $1 million in a variety of events. His siring success is led by barrel racing, with Equi-Stat earnings of over $940,000. The leading cross in barrel racing is with daughters of all-time leading sire of barrel racing money earners Dash Ta Fame. The success of this cross follows the philosophy that Dale and Ken ascribe to as breeders.
“Dash Ta Fame carries the blood of some horses that we have known and followed for years,” Ken explains. “When you look at
the Dash Ta Fame pedigree, he carries good family lines of Driftwood and Clabber. I know it isn’t up close, but they are very good family lines of these stallions. You’ve got Driftwood and Clabber on the bottom side. When you look at the studs, we look at what mare lines are there.
“We followed Dash Ta Fame even before we had Fab,” he continued. “He had Driftwood on the bottom and we had some mares that had Driftwood that came from the bottom side. Also on the bottom side he had Tiny Watch as a horse that carried the Clabber line with Tiny’s Gay, and Fab brought more of that line in through Tiny Circus and we wanted to get that Clabber line as close as we could.”
Ken pointed out how he saw Clabber’s influence in barrel racing. “Some people don’t realize how many great horses carry the blood

of Clabber,” he said. “World Champions
Bozo (French Flash Hawk), Hot Shot (Nate Shilabar), Dutch (Dutch Watch), and Scamper (Gills Bay Boy) all carry the blood of Clabber.”
Let’s look at the Clabber ties to these Champions. Bozo is out of Caseys Charm
by Tiny Circus by Tiny Watch, who is out of Clabber Tiny by Clabber II by Clabber. Hot Shot is out of Talent Lady by Roll A Coin, who is out of Five K Betty by Clabber Bar, a son of the mare Peggy N by Clabber. Dutch Watch is by Tiny Watch, who is out of Clabber Tiny by Clabber II by Clabber. Scamper is by Gills Sonny Boy by Sonny Gill by Tonto Bars Gill, who is out of Tonta Gal by Clabber.
The successful mating of Fab with
Dash Ta Fame mares is a nick. The blood
of Clabber and Driftwood gives this cross
the blood affinity we often find between
the stallion and mares in a nick. Equi-Stat records show that the Frenchmans Fabulous/ Dash Ta Fame cross has barrel racing earnings of $492,547.
The leading money earners from this cross are KN Fabs Gift Of Fame ($190,162) and KN Fabs Mist Of Fame ($144,055).
KN Fabs Mist Of Fame was the 2012 Old Fort Days Futurity Champion. A third foal from this cross is KN Fabulous N Famous ($13,401). The dam of these three is Mistys Dash Of Fame by Dash Ta Fame. These three foals are the only ones out of this mare sired by Frenchmans Fabulous.
The third leading money earner from
this cross is Mia Fabulous Fame ($74,808). This horse is out of Reposada by Dash Ta Fame. Fabusada (also out of Reposada) by Frenchmans Fabulous is another barrel racing money earner from this cross.
The fourth leading money earner from this cross is KN French Dot Fame ($35,922). The dam of this horse is Hum Dot Com, out of Hum For The Money by Humbolt. Humbolt is by Alamitos Bar and out of Tiny Kay by Tiny Charger, who is out of Clabber Tiny by Clabber II by Clabber. Hum Dot
