A SUPER SONIC BOOM
by Danny Camp
ASuper Sonic Boom broke his maiden
in the in the finals of the New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity-RG3 at SunRay Park on May 15. The total purse was worth $101,680. Eighth fastest qualifier, A Super Sonic Boom, surprised them all and banked the first place check worth $61,008.
A Super Sonic Boom was last to load and broke first from the 10-post
under his regular rider Jaime
Leos. They received every
call and crossed the wire easily the winner by a neck after a driving finish. A Super Sonic Boom stopped the clock at :17.555 for the 350-yards, earning a speed index of 87. The win is the gray colt’s first from three tries with him running better every out. A Super Sonic Boom has now earned a total bankroll of $61,148.
Credit also goes to trainer Ken Grisham and owner Hubaldo Solis. A Super Sonic Boom, who was bred in New Mexico by
Solis, is out of Strawberryberryfast. The
mare was a money/ROM earner on the track and has produced 100% money earners from seven starters. A Super Sonic Boom is her first stakes winner, although multiple stakes-placed
Vicente Y Su Corona is her top money earner.
According to trainer Grisham, who had three in the finals, “A Super Sonic Boom is a home-bred stud colt. He didn’t get away very good in the trials. After he broke, he tried to get in and jockey Jaime Leos had to straighten him pretty hard. In the finals, he drew the outside and got away good.”
The trainer went on to say, “We are looking to stay in
the breed races with Albuquerque, Hobbs and Sunland in our sights.”
Frost Dalena (Chicks Regard-Forced To Win) ran a steady race on the inside and dueled to fin- ish a neck behind the winner. Her team includes owner Jeff Caron & trainer Fernando Velazquez. Alejandro Medellin was in the saddle. The photo finish showed My Moon Crest (First Moonflash- Memory Crest) was third. Her connections include owners Faustino Martinez & Monce Chavez. Martin Felix was handling the reins
for trainer Oscar Carrete. Followed by Genuine High (Buildemhigh-Flicka De Fly), Go Daddy Gone (Big Daddy Cartel-Taylor Can Move), Hard Not To Sing (Hard Hitting-Singin Diva), Corona Bud (Call Me Corona-BCR Bud Lite Babe), KG Miracle (Hearts Miracle-Purple Ice TB), VMR Rebel (Dejon-La Chamaka) & Raise Your Style (Woodbridge-Raise The Boknaai).
