JMF SHAZOOMER
by Michael Compton
JMF Shazoomer surprised 8 rivals in the 550-yard Orange Blossom Stakes at Hialeah Park on Dec. 27 for trainer Rolando Almanza. Having saddled Daytona B to victory in the previous day’s Bienvenido De Nuevo Stakes at the historic South Florida track, Almanza returned to the winner’s circle with JMF Shazoomer during the second day of the meet.
Ridden by Francisco Ramirez Jr., the 3-year-old gelding raced in third position early. Under a steady drive in the lane, JMF Shazoomer collared Eyesa Shoofly Dandy nearing the wire to post the victory, proving best by a neck at the finish.
Claiming the initial stakes race win of his career, JMF Shazoomer took home the first place check worth $16,350 stopping the timer in :27.200 for a speed index of 90. Graded stakes-placed in 2014, having finished third in the Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity-G3 at Louisiana Downs, JMF Shazoomer is now a 3-time winner from 17 starts and boasts earnings of $77,358.
Bred in Texas by Joe M. Flores, JMF Shazoomer is the lone stakes winner produced from the winning mare Jess Bingo Beth, who has produced two win- ners from three starters.

Speedball Stakes
EL MACHO PRIETO BOY
by Michael Compton
It had been one year between victories for El Macho Prieto Boy, but the 4-year-old colt celebrated his return to South Florida in December by rewarding
his connections with a win in the $22,125 Speedball Stakes at Hialeah Park on Dec. 28, the exact day
he captured his trial and qualified for the Hialeah Maturity the previous year.
Gerrardo Garrido piloted El Macho Prieto Boy for trainer Jesus Garrido in the Speedball. The pair dueled throughout the 110-yard dash, prevail- ing by a head at the wire, stopping the timer in :7.014 and earning the $13,275 winners share.
This was the first stakes race win for El Macho Prieto Boy which improved his record to 14-5-4-1 and boosted his lifetime earnings to $61,635 with the first place check.
Bred in North Carolina by Jacob David Laughter, El Macho Prieto Boy is out of the unplaced, stakes producing mare Silk Traffic. She is also the dam of additional winner Christmas From Mom.
Multiple graded stakes winner Llano Cartel (Teller Cartel-Eyesa Lil Cuevo) finished second with Tanner Thedford in the irons. The 5-year-old gelding, a 12-time winner, races in the colors of Wade Helton and is trained by Fernando Carrete.
Spit Curl Daisy (Spit Curl Jess-First Prize Corona) raced with the leaders throughout and finished a close third under Oscar Delgado. Her connections include owner San Ignacio QH Inc. and trainer Jesus Gonzalez Jr.
Game Rita (Game Patriot-Victorita), Cruise by Diva (Corona Cartel-Spit Curl Diva), Load Your Guns (Corona Cartel-Dashing Little Reba) & Air Born Leader (Leader of the Class-Air Born Jazz) completed the order of finish.

Mockingbird Stakes
SHE LOOKS RACY
by John Moorehouse
She Looks Racy rang in the new year by capturing the win in the $21,875 Mockingbird Stakes on Jan. 2 at Hialeah Park.
A three-year-old filly, She Looks Racy collected her third win and first in stakes company. Double A Ranch owns She Looks Racy and collected a $13,125 payday that improved her lifetime bankroll to $68,632. The filly already had black type, finishing third in last year’s running of the Grade 1 Dash For Cash Futurity.
A stumble at the start did not slow down
She Looks Racy. Jockey Yordanis Amaro settled
his charge, who led by 1-length by the time she reached the stretch and widened the gap late to sport a 1 1/4-length margin as she hit the wire. Elio Vazquez trains She Looks Racy, who finished the 250 yards wire-to-wire in :13.259 and registered a 92 speed index.
Johnny Trotter and Burnett Ranches bred She Looks Racy and own her dam, Miss Racy Jess, a 2008 mare who also holds black type. Miss Racy Jess won the 2011 Los Alamitos Super Derby. As a broodmare, three of her five foals have made starts, and She Looks Racy is the first to win a stakes.
Sprinster (FDD Dynasty-Dash Of Perry) closed well to finish second for Sunset Well Service, Inc. The John Stinebaugh trainee had Edwuin Lujan aboard. Regala De Amor (Mr Piloto-Le Mishka) placed third for owners Amber and Jeremy Hill and trainer Raul Zavala. Omar Reyes did the riding.
