Mexican Breeders Futurity
N SURE
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
When the trials for this futurity ran on Nov. 29, the name of the Champion was highly profiled. N Sure, the black filly
of Cuadra San Antonio AJH, was the fastest qualifier of the 26 applicants running the 400 yards in :19.60. After N Sure came Miss Corona Houston, who ran in the same group with a time of :19.94 nearly 3-lengths behind.
The final was scheduled for Dec. 13 and only eight of the 10 qualifiers attended to their appointment. In their walk into the saddling oval, the class and preparation of these two Mexican native yearlings – N Sure and Miss Corona Houston - stood out, who together with their riders were ready to challenge the 400 yards and compete for a prize of 639,700 pesos ($37,464 US approximately).
Already well-seasoned, they took their positions and quickly broke from the gate. About 30 yards later, N Simone ran outwards and bumped into Danny BN, and in turn into Miss Corona Houston. N Sure was close to being involved in the incident as she moved dangerously outwards, but the filly made her way freely. She was well supported by Eddi Cuellar, who managed to position and hold her in front of the group, crossing the finish line more than 1-length in front of Sola Shes, who from the 9-post made a good race with the assistance of Jose Edgar Dominguez.
The race time was 19.84 seconds for a speed index of 89. It was a comfortable win
where the winner wasn’t forced, having won with
a slower time than her qualifying time. The Juarez Hernandez family, along with followers and friends in large numbers, came to the winner’s circle for the ceremonial photos.
N Sure (Native Cartel - Sure Alibi) was bred by Salvador Oñate Ascencio, who con- signed the filly at the 2014 Yearling Subasta Selecta where she reached the second best bid in the ring. There she was acquired by her current owner, who gave her all the available opportunities for auctioned Mexican two year olds, winning the Arcadio Espinosa Clasico
on Sept. 27, a race that is part of the Quarter Horse Breeders’ Cup; and now the Mexican Breeders Futurity, of which trainer Raymundo Sandoval also shared the honors. N Sure’s 2015 campaign closed with six first and two second places and earnings of 866,255 pesos (approxi- mately US $57,750).
The filly is half-sister to Holland Sure, who is a Superior Race Horse and Mexico Hi-Point 3-Year-Old Gelding. He is also a winner of the 2011 Mexican Breeders Futurity.
Sola Shes (Senior Solo - Shesa A Toll) took second place with Jose Edgar Dominguez aboard for owner Cuadra La Presita and trainer Alfredo Martinez Mora.
First Prize Girl (Special First Prize - Harpers Whaini) took the prize for third place under Omar Amador. She
is owned by her breeder Abelardo Gallegos Fernández.
Completing the field were Miss Corona Houston (MSR Corona Classic –
Houston Beduina), Danny BN (Danny Cartel – Oughter BN Boots), El Jamaikino (Danny Cartel – Double Bar Dash), N Simone (Native Cartel – Sassy Simone) & FUA Maria Isabel (Just And Old Sayin – Choose A Dream). EC Consiglieri and Ferdy Ruby scratched.
