Volcoms Heart was bred in the United States by P.K. Thomas and runs for Cuadra Estanzuela. She is owned by Jose Manuel Vasco, who is based in Villahermosa, Tabasco. Her official trainer is Carlos Villanueva Campos.
Due to the location of where she is stabled, the filly must travel about 15 hours to race at the Hipodromo de las Americas in Mexico City. Despite the wear of the trip and the advantage that means for her rivals, in only two of her 20 starts has she been out of the money, which speaks highly of the preparation and good management she receives during
the trip. “This time we decided to leave her at the Hipodromo de las Americas because we thought another trip just two weeks after the qualifying performance would significantly reduce her endurance,” said Jose Manuel

VOLCOMS HEART
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
The red bay filly Volcoms Heart was undoubtedly the main leader of the 2015 racing season at the Hipodromo de las Americas. The Dec. 12 final of the Champion of Champions Stakes was a 440-yard race with a prize of 457,500 pesos (approximately US $26,794). The race is for horses that are 3 year olds or older, and Volcoms Heart was the only filly participant from the Nov. 29 trials, and she qualified with the best time.
With these circumstances and given her track record, she was the favorite to win and she met those expectations. Despite being a race with experienced horses and riders, the Champion of Champions Stakes was not without incidents that prevented some to fully express their potential on the track.
As the gates opened, Kangaroofirst stumbled and consequently moved slightly inward, bothering Hawk Springs, who from the left side was also pressured by Ah Zoom, with both blocking his way. Paul Osvaldo Rodriguez tried to straighten Kangaroofirst’s path, but he moved more than necessary and met with Tessta Rossa, forming a bundle of
four horses. While this was occurring on the left side of the track, those that set out from the right side took advantage of the situation, most notably Spit Curl Trey, Volcoms Heart and BP Southern Wave, who set the pace of the race, and taking advantage of the fact that Conquer All grazed Atouche.
As they devoured yards, the familiar stride of Volcoms Heart was beginning to show itself as she crossed the wire in first by a neck over BP Southern Wave, with Spit Curl Trey fol- lowing in third. The filly stopped the clock in :21.56 seconds for a speed index of 95, count- ing again on the valuable support of rider Eddi Cuellar, who had a successful evening having ridden the winners of the two classics ran in this exciting feature season final.
The filly out of Lethal Heart concluded her third season with four more classics in her favor. Beside the Champion of Champions Stakes, Volcoms Heart this year has also won the AQHA Distaff Challenge, the Chirina Glorys Stakes and the Merced Gómez Orozco. To these achievements of 2015, we must also add the Easily A Possum Stakes in
