BODACIOUS EAGLE

Even as he ages, Bodacious Eagle continues to fly high making trainer Trey Wood’s job easy. The five-year-old gelding collected his
fourth career stakes victory taking the $100,000 Leo Stakes-G1 at Remington Park on April 1.
Bodacious Eagle broke out of the 9-post second under Ricky Ramirez. The gelding ran a close second at the first call and through the stretch, then overtook

neck. The gelding made the
400-yard trip in :19.262,
posting a career best 104
speed index. The $59,730
winner’s share pushed his life-
time earnings to $779,561.

Owned by Johnny Trotter, Bodacious Eagle is 2-0 thus far in 2017 and has reached the winner’s circle 10 times in a 22-race career. “He’s just kind of a once in a lifetime horse,” Wood said. “He doesn’t ever have a bad day,
difference in the world to him,” Wood said. “It’s hard to believe he’s 5 years old and on top of his game, but he really is.”
Zoomin Effortlessly (Zoomin For Bux- Royal Quick Affair) finished second under Santos Carrizales for owner Telesforo Perrett and trainer Edelmiro Carrizales. Big Lew (Corona Cartel-Executive Looks) finished third for owner Reliance Ranches, LLC. The Mike Robbins trainee had Stormy Smith aboard.

hardly. More so now than since his two-year-old year, he’s just really sharp.”
The difference, Wood thinks, is the six-month layoff Bodacious Eagle had prior
to the Eastex Stakes-G2 in March. After finishing fifth in the All American Gold Cup-G1 at Ruidoso during Labor Day weekend, Wood put the gelding out to roam
a 10-acre pasture with two other horses until Christmas.

Back when Hotwiredotcom was a yearling, his breeders/owners Shirley and Jim Wheeler turned down a few offers to buy him, that was a
good decision, as on April 1 he won the $117,400 Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1 at Remington Park.
Guillermo Valdivia trains Hotwiredotcom, who found his stride late under Larry Payne and finished the race in :15.642 foran 82 speed index. He also secured
a $45,712 payday for the Wheelers, which improved the young gelding’s total earnings to $49,150.
“I’m sure glad now we didn’t sell him,” Shirley said with a laugh.
Her husband, Jim, agreed, saying, “He was a good-bred colt. His mother ran a 101 speed index and his daddy had a 103 index. I felt like he’d run, but he wasn’t

very big. He’s really grown up now. I’m glad I kept him.”
The Wheelers owned three of the 10 finalists in the Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1 and thought El Diablo Chicken or JS Chickenpox would make a run for vic- tory based on their bloodline. Instead, it was fastest qualifier Hotwiredotcom who made it to the winner’s circle.
“He’s pretty honest. He’s done everything right so far,” Jim said. “This is just one of those blessings that we incurred.”
