AHC Collecting Data For 2017 Economic Impact Study
The American Horse Council (AHC) began collecting data on April 1 to update its economic impact study of the horse industry. The survey is tailored to individual segments, with the 2017 study expanded to include the equine welfare and sanctuary segments, and it is now open to participants under 18. The AHC encourages those in the industry to visit www.horsecouncil.org. Any individual or organization wanting to pledge toward
the goal amount needed for the study can visit www.horsecouncil.org or email afurst@ horsecouncil.org, or contact the AHC at 202-296-4031.
AAEP Announces 2017 Education Opportunities
The American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) announced the continued education classes they will be sponsoring in 2017. The schedule includes: Focus meetings presenting the latest evidence-based knowledge within a specific area of medicine - a Focus
on Colic, Focus on Dentistry, and Focus on Students in July in Kentucky; a 360˚ meet-
ing that combines lectures and wet labs into

New ThermoRegulator Healthcare Tool
Equine Guelph has partnered with blanket manufacturer Bucas of Ireland for a new ‘ThermoRegulator Healthcare Tool’ that explores horse thermoregulation in all seasons to help avoid over-heating and dehydra-
tion as well as a variety of sicknesses caused
as a result of chilling and other preventable health problems. “Bucas is pleased to partner with Equine Guelph in the development of ‘ThermoRegulator Healthcare Tool’, as it is an excellent resource for the horse owner in understanding the principles of thermoregula- tion in horses and helpful in the proper use

Carolyn Ladner Babb Passes Away
Carolyn Ladner Babb, wife of longtime auctioneer Keith Babb, passed away March 27 after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Carolyn was a retired associate pro- fessor of the School of Business at Northeast Louisiana University, and she previously taught economics at Auburn University. After her retirement from NLU, among other things, she was a partner and man- ager of Keith Babb & Associates Auction and Realty Co. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 47 years, Keith Babb, son Bryan, and daughter Keena Babb Luffey, 3 grand- children: Aden Antley, Ladner Luffey and Nova Vernon, along with many other family members and friends.
Juanita Crone Passes Away
Juanita Crone, the wife of the late Gordon Crone, passed away March 2 at the age of 92. Juanita was married to longtime horseman Gordon Crone, who was an AQHA director from 1985-1992. The couple raced Champion Vespero in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. Gordon, who passed away at the age of 74 in 1994, is honored with the Gordon Crone Special Achievement Award that is given yearly to an outstanding man in the AQHA racing industry to recognize his achievements. Juanita will be missed by many family members and friends.
Bejamin Thommas Wainscott Passes Away
Benjamin Wainscott, 31, passed away on March 22 as the result of an automo- bile accident. Ben worked as a Gate Hand Starter at Remington Park Racetrack. Survivors include his sons, Cash Wainscott and Daxton Wainscott, parents Robbie and Donna Wainscott, his twin brother Cody Wainscott, along with many other family members and friends. His service was held on Mar. 27 with the Remington Park Gate Crew as honorary bearers.
M&M Racing Stables Owns Minnesota Champion This Doll Ca Run
On page 108 of our March issue, the owner of 2016 Minnesota Quarter Horse Racing Association Champion Open Three Year Old This Doll Ca Run was incorrect. The filly is owned by M&M Racing Stables, LLC. This Doll Ca Run (One Sweet Jess-JA Run Doll Run) won three of her 11 starts last year, including finishing as a finalist in the Grade 3 Two Rivers Stakes.
Mexican Champion Valentino Mystery Jockeys
On page 54 of our February 2017 Champion issue, the jockey information for Mexican Champion Valentino Mystery was incorrect. The 2014 gelding was ridden by Alberto Ceron Zamudio and Alejandro Gomez.
