Cherry Creek Futurity
IN KUH HOOTS
by Danny Camp
When the money is on the line, the cream comes to the top. It was futurity time at Arapahoe Park on June 5 when In Kuh Hoots rose to the top of the field that had qualified for the 330-yard Cherry Creek Futurity during the May 20 trials.
After the disqualification of Girl With Guns, In Kuh Hoots was moved to first and won his trial heat for the 8th qualifying spot. When the gates cracked open for the Cherry Creek Futurity finals, In Kuh Hoots received the second call. Rider Alfredo Triana Jr. hustled hard, then halfway down the track he
sat quiet. That proved to be the winning formula as they crossed under the wire nearly 1-length in front, stopping the clock at :17.074 for an 86 speed index. The total purse was $78,505, with $31,402 going to first place. With that check, In Kuh Hoots has now earned $34,162. The Cherry Creek Futurity was his second victory from his two races.
In Kuh Hoots is owned/bred by Lisa Beauprez, Thomas Bradbury and Thomas Bradbury Jr. John Hammes is in charge of saddling. In Kuh Hoots is the first stakes winner and top earner out of Forever Bradgelina, who won the 2011 Rocky Mountain Derby and was a 2-time graded stakes finalist. The mare has produced 5 starters, all money earners.
Carvers Corona (Wave Carver-Adriannas
Corona) was 2nd under Edwin Pena for Juan Antonio Gonzalez-Aguilar & trainer Miguel Pena. Fastest qual- ifier Who You Know (One Famous Eagle-Shazooms Doll) was 3rd under Stormy Smith for owner Thomas H. Bradbury and owner/trainer John D. Hammes. Lucille Rowe Derby
GOLONDRINO JAMES
by Michael Compton
With the scratching of fastest qualifier Three Olives N Smoke from the $60,442 Lucille Rowe Derby at Arapahoe Park, the second fastest qualifier for the feature event, Golondrino James, stepped up and promptly took care of business in the 350-yard test on June 4.
Ridden by Edwin Pena, Golondrino James raced in contention throughout. After maintaining the early pace set by Checkmyshoesout, Golondrino James surged past that rival in the late stages to prove best by 1/2-length, stopping the timer in :17.770. The final clocking earned him a speed index of 90 and the $24,178 winner’s share of the purse.
It was the initial stakes win for Golondrino James, who is perfect in two starts this year for trainer Miguel Pena. Owned by Margarita Cardenas- Ramirez, Golondrino James increased his bankroll to $35,598 and improved his overall record to 5-3-2-0.
Bred in Colorado by Francisco J. Cornejo, the bay gelding is the lone starter from the unraced mare Tahiti Wave.
Checkmyshoesout (Absolut Tres-Cash for the Ladybug) flashed speed away from the gate for jockey Daniel Valles and held second. The filly is owned by Miguel Angel Martine and was saddled by Zachary Quezada.
Thatza Fact Jack (Teller Cartel-Alluring Streak) finished third under Joe Badilla, Jr. The sorrel geld- ing is owned by Levings Racing, LLC and trained by John Hammes.

AIR FORCE WON
by Michael Compton
Air Force Won made his first start away from
Los Alamitos in the Adequan Arapahoe Derby Challenge at Arapahoe Park on June 4th, and the change of scenery agreed with the 3-year-old gelding.
After notching just one win from eight previous starts, Air Force Won took to his new surroundings in scoring his first stakes victory. Ridden by Ramiro Garcia, Air Force Won opened a clear advantage in the early stages of the 400-yard fixture. In a strong effort, Air Force Won drew off handily in the lane, defeating runner-up Royal Quick Eagle by 2-lengths at the wire. The winner clocked the distance in :19.679, earning a speed index of 95.
Alejandro Chavez saddled Air Force Won for owner Vences Quarter Horse. The $16,932 winner’s share of the purse increased Air Force Won’s bankroll to $28,064 and improved his record to 9-2-2-1.
