CANDY CARTELS CAT
by Michael Cusortelli
Candy Cartels Cat kept her perfect season record intact with a nose victory in the 350-yard $54,895 Grade 3 Decketta Stakes for 3-year-old and older fillies and mares at Remington Park on April 2.
Under jockey Jose Montoya, Candy Cartels Cat stopped the timer in :17.465 and earned her second win during the Remington Park meet.
Clint Crawford prepped the homebred four-year- old filly for PV Quarter Horse Farms LLC of Ratliff City, Oklahoma.
Candy Cartels Cat was coming off of a sophomore campaign during which she banked $79,368 from just six outs, with a third in the Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Derby-RG3. The filly was also a finalist in the Heritage Place Derby-G2 and Dash For Cash Derby-G3.
“This mare is getting really good,” said Crawford, “She trained really well all winter, and I figured we’d have a good time at Remington with her this year.”
All told, Candy Cartels Cat has won five of 12 starts, and the $33,084 winner’s share of the purse from her first career stakes score pushed her earnings to $149,004. Candy Cartels Cat is one of two starters out of Candy Cartel, a homebred 8-year-old daughter of Corona Cartel who won four stakes from 2011-12.
Runner-up Sudden Separation (Inseperable- Okie Dokey Annie) races for Duane Murphy. James Flores rode the homebred 5-year-old mare for trainer Larry Sharp. By John Moorehouse
TF Cajun Cartel added to an already impressive career record on April 23 at Remington Park, winning the $51,100 Bob Moore Memorial-G2 by daylight.
A four-year-old gelding, TF Cajun Cartel now holds six wins in 14 lifetime starts, with four in stakes company-all in restricted or graded events. The $29,730 prize from this victory pushed his career earnings to $189,071.
After opening his 2016 campaign with second and fifth-place finishes in stakes at Hialeah Park, there was no catching TF Cajun Cartel in this one. The colt broke on top from the inside gate, led by 1 1/2-lengths as he entered the stretch, then coasted to the wire still sporting a 1-length separation.
Fernando Carrete trains TF Cajun Cartel and co-owns the colt with Ascencion Fernandez, Jr. Ricky Ramirez was aboard for a 300-yard trip that took :15.023 and registered a 102 speed index that matched the colt’s career high.
TF Cajun Cartel is one of two stakes winners out of his dam, Dashadee. The other is Ms Special Perry, who won the 2009 running of the Firecracker Futurity at Delta Downs. Dashadee is an unraced 2003 mare owned by Tate Farms, who also bred TF Cajun Cartel.
Houdini (Valiant Hero-Pure Oklahoma) took second place by a nose for owner Bruno Cerda
and trainer Luis Villafranco. Omar Reyes rode the gelding. Mr Jo Eagle (One Famous Eagle-First Place Diamond) placed third for Dan W. Nicks. The R.L. Robinson trainee had Agustin Silva aboard.
The remaining order of finish was Mavara Vegas (FDD Dynasty-Jess Like Vegas), Roaster (Walk Thru Fire-Thinking About Chick), Rock You (Foose-Babe On The Fly), Jesse Jr First Down (Jesse James Jr-First Down Beaus), Win Rabbits Fly (Fly Jess Fly-Break The Market), First Sweet Midnite (Sweet First Down- Midnite Soiree) and This Wagons Okay (PYC Paint Your Wagon-This Candys Okay).

MIXED FANTASY
by Michael Cusortelli
Mixed Fantasy, a 6-year-old gray gelding racing for JK Running Horses LLC of Neosho Falls, Kansas, earned his fifth stakes victory in the $51,870
Pauls Valley Stakes-G3 at Remington Park on April 7. Prepped by Kenny Laymon, Mixed Fantasy
was second from the inside post and quickly took the lead. He held on and was 2-lengths in front at the top of the stretch. He covered the 870 yards in :44.835 and posted a 104 speed index under jockey Daniel Torres. The gelding’s winning margin was 3/4-length from Youvebeenhenried. CR Tuckernuck, the 1-2 favorite, finished third.
“I just wanted to get in front, especially with (CR Tuckernuck) drawing right next to us,” Torres said. “I thought that if we could get in front, we would be in a good spot.”
Mixed Fantasy has won 12 of 35 outs with 5 stakes wins, and the $29,946 winner’s share of the Pauls Valley purse pushed his bankroll to $214,718. Of that total, $73,174 was earned during a 4-year-old cam- paign in which the gelding won two of his five total stakes, which include the Covered Bridges Stakes-G3 (twice) and the SLM Big Daddy Stakes (twice).
Mixed Fantasy was bred by Carl & Luanne Humphries of Arab, Alabama, and is the first stakes winner out of winner Mixin Sixin. The mare is the dam of 100% winners/money earners from 3 starters.
Second-placed Youvebeenhenried (Make It Anywhere-Pals Miss Phoebe) races for Mark Darwin Denny. David Brown rode the gelding for trainer Jody Brown. CR Tuckernuck (Jet Black Patriot-Fast Prize Corona) was third under Ricky Ramirez for owner Kharlottie Grace Urschel and trainer Stacey Capps.
