Fastest qualifier and Laddie Futurity-RG2 victor San Lorenzo Jet proved unbeatable for the fourth consecutive time, reporting home a
decisive winner of the $729,416 Lee Berwick Futurity-RG1 on July 16 at Delta Downs.
The smart win kept San Lorenzo Jet’s record unblemished after four appearances for owner Rogelio Marquez Jr. and trainer Jesus Marquez.
With his regular pilot David Alvarez in the irons, San Lorenzo Jet popped out of the gate and cleared off by a half length early in the 350-yard contest. The bay colt stretched his lead to two commanding lengths in the lane and he crossed the finish in hand late to score by a measured 1 1/2-lengths as the odds-on wagering favorite. San Lorenzo Jet stopped the timer in a fast :17.440, earning a speed index of 94 in the impressive outing.
“I honestly thought he was the best colt
in the LQHBA Yearling Sale,” said winning owner Rogelio Marquez Jr., who acquired the talented youngster for $49,000 at the LQHBA
