Rainbow Derby-G1
A POLLITICAL CANDY V

Sammy Valeriano and Randy and Stacy Hill have produced several good racehorses through various foal-sharing deals and purchases. A Pollitical Candy V, bred by the Hills, is one of the most recent to come out of their programs, as he won the July 23 Rainbow Derby-G1 at Ruidoso Downs for Valeriano Racing Stables LLC.
A Pollitical Candy V spent the first part of his career at Los Alamitos, where he ran second in
the 2021 Evening Snow Handicap and 2022 Los Alamitos Winter Derby-G1 when trained by Jaime Gomez for Valeriano. Santos Carrizales Jr., the leading trainer at the Remington Park meet, trains A Pollitical Candy V at Ruidoso, and jockey Juan Pulido began riding the gelding. That combination is now three for four at the track.
A Pollitical Candy V faced a field in
the Derby that included 3-5 favorite KJ Desparado, who was coming off a smart victory in the Ruidoso Futurity-G1 and his Rainbow trial win, in which he qualified the fastest. A Pollitical Candy V qualified the
