ALOTTA OH LA LA

nly four of the nine youngsters in the $61,220
MQHRA Stallion Auction Futurity at Canterbury Park on July 13 had ever won a race. They included the odds-on favorite, undefeated stakes winner Beep Beep Rev Rev. Yet the maiden Alotta Oh La La defeated them all to break her maiden in the 350-yard event.
Stormy Smith was back aboard Alotta Oh La
La after getting a third with the filly at Remington Park and a second at Canterbury. They broke on top and battled for the lead with My Candys Relentless, while Beep Beep Rev Rev got away a step slow. Alotta Oh La La ran straight for the wire to beat My Candys Relentless by 1 1/4-lengths in :17.658, while posting a 98 speed index.
Mallory Norton trains Alotta Oh La La for owner Leon Glasser, who bred the filly in North Dakota. Alotta Oh La La is out of multiple stakes winner Little Love Affair, who has produced eight starters, all winners, including stakes winners Tinys First Affair, Heza Prospect, and Dawsons Affair and two stakes-placed runners.
Tom Maher owns and Jason Olmstead
trains second-place My Candys Relentless (Hes Relentless-Send Your Candy) and third-place Relentless Okie (Hes Relentless-Ms Dynasty). Gonzalo Gutierrez rode My Candys Relentless, who now has three seconds and one third in four starts. Luis Valenzuela piloted Relentless Okie, a Maher homebred. Relentless Okie had won two of his three previous races.
Followed by Jettin Jetta (EC Jet One-PYC Dollars), Beep Beep Rev Rev (A Revenant-Etta Betta Zoom), Hot Splash Dash (One Sweet Jess-One Hot Party), Love This Heart (Hes Relentless-Cole Hearted Hussy), Seis It Aint So (Stoli-Six It Up), and Wichee Woman (A Revenant-Oh So Arrogant). Naughtee Or Nice was scratched.
Ontario Bred Futurity
SILVER LYNING

rainer Michelle Woodley qualified three to the
$48,627 Ontario Bred Futurity Ajax Downs on July 6, including fastest-qualifier Firstprize Charlotte. But it was Silver Lyning, another of Woodley’s runners, who took home the first prize instead.
When the gate opened, Silver Lyning came away on top from the 4-gate under jockey Tony Phillips and was never headed. The gray filly pointed straight for the wire, scoring by 1/2-length in :15.624 for 300 yards, for an 87 speed index. The $19,451 winner’s share of the purse swelled her bankroll to $21,489.
Woodley not only trains Silver Lyning, she owns the filly and bred her in partnership with Gary McNichol. Silver Lyning made her racing debut in her June 15 futurity trial, finishing second and qualifying as the third fastest.
Woodley and McNichol bred Silver Lyning in Ontario out of McNichol’s homebred Embrace Extravagence, and the filly is the first foal from the mare to race. Woodley trained Embrace Extravagence and co-owned her with McNichol and Patricia Ball. Embrace Extravagence won the 2015 Picov Derby at Ajax.
Marie Broadstock’s homebred Eyesa Dasha Wacky (Dashair-All Wacked Out) finished second. Ramiro Castillo piloted the gelding for trainer Don Reid. Eyesa Dasha Wacky debuted in his futurity trial, finishing fifth. Woodley also trained third-place Quick Asa Hiccup (Wagon Tales-Eyesa Quick), owned by Richard Wincikaby. Ed Walton rode Quick Asa Hiccup in the gelding’s trial, in which they finished fourth, and in the final.
Had To Be Ivy (Ivory James-Had To Be Fandango), Firstprize Charlotte (Dashair-Ms First Prize Pearl), One Fabulous Wave (One Fabulous Eagle-Volcoms Wave), and Adreamtobuildakisson (Dashair-Tres Seis Smooches) completed the order of finish. Da Zoom, Maximize, and Sour Candy were scratched.
Ontario Sires Stakes Maturity
SUGARMANS DELIGHT

ife is pretty sweet for Sugarmans Delight and his
connections. The nine-year-old gelding ran to his very first stakes victory in the 58th start of his career, winning the $29,595 Ontario Sires Stakes Maturity at Ajax Downs on July 17.
Breaking from the 2-post, Sugarmans Delight was running a close second at the first call, then seized the lead underneath rider Ed Walton. The veteran gelding opened a 1/2-length gap by the time he entered the stretch and held on to win by that same margin, finishing his 330-yard trip in :16.812 for a 99 speed index, and aided by a strong 26 mph tailwind.
Christine Tavares home-bred Sugarmans Delight picked up his 13th win and a $13,928 payday that increased his total bankroll to $171,060. The gelding has raced exclusively at Ajax Downs.
Joe Tavares trains Sugarmans Delight, who was foaled in Ontario out of Wonders Delight, a lightly- raced 2008 mare. The veteran gelding made his debut back in August of 2015, and made several tries to secure that elusive first stakes victory. Previously, Sugarmans Delight came closest to that accolade in the summer of 2016, when he placed second in the Ontario Sires Stakes Derby. He’s spent the past two calendar years racing in speed index races, claiming races, and allowance events.
Pretty Runaway (Winners Award-Pretty Jane Perry) closed well to snare runner-up honors for owner James Bogar and trainer Barry Wood. Jockey Tony Phillips did the riding. Night Fishn (Sugarman Perry-Fisher Lines), the post-time favorite, finished third for owner Mary Schrama. Trainer Dan Giles had jockey Ramiro Castillo in the irons.
Hanover Hill Chalsee (Make Out Artist-Secret Sugarwoman) and All Outta Sugar (Sugarman Perry-All Wacked Out) completed the remaining order of finish.
